    oil change on the xr600r

hey people, got a question for ya, all

when you do your oil changes do any of you run flushing oil through the engine then re-fill with your nominated oil.
or do you just drain the old, change the filter then fill with the new oil?
question point is, if you do use flushing oil would you use it with the old oil filter in or put a new filter in then flush the engine, then change the filter and put your new oil in.

as these filters are under a tenner would it make sense to use the two filters?
or am i just being to pedantic here.

Yes you are being PEDANTIC.......but in a nice way ! I would just change the oil and put a new filter in and use synthetic oil.

I just drain, fit new filter and refill with silkoline comp 4. (full synthetic)

If you are not sure of history it may be worth flushing on first change for peace of mind.

I asked this on the KTM forum
And it was as Airwolf has said,if your not sure, just flush it with cheap oil.
Check the strainer in the right side case as well.I know it's a pain with the gasket, but I use blue instant gasket, which is a fiver and can do 5 or 6 gaskets and has never lost a drop of oil

fair enough, i thought i might have been lol.
    thanks for the tips people.
it had a service about 150 miles ago (4wks) but I'm not sure if they changed the filter as the bolt heads for the filter cover were untouched and there was no sign of the gasket being renewed.
and the guy who re-wound the stator said the oil was quite dirty so i thought i would just do it myself.
