xr650r m.o.t dilema

Hi folks, new to the forum.I've recently purchased an '02 xr650r which had been sorned for a few years and was up for m.o.t today.I thought it might fail for the full FMf powerbomb exhaust but it didnt,it failed because the m.o.t inspector said the mph stickers(30,50 and 70 mph-i think!!?)should not be stuck to the speedo clear plastic cover, but must be on the actual speedo itself beside the kph numbers. Can anyone suggest a speedy(pardon the pun) resolution to my dilema? Thanks in advance!

p.s,I live in Northern Ireland, hence the mot inspector

Buy any old mph speedo from a breakers, screw an old bit of speedo cable into the back and hide the other end of it, then bolt/tape or wire the clock on. Unless they ride the bike (unlikely) they won't know it doesn't actually do anything.

2000 XRV750 (NO 3), I think I'm getting the hang of them now, must fit the centrestand before the back tyre wears out. Damn, the driveshaft bearing wore out first!

Easy fix take the speedo and cable off then take for mot, enduro bikes don't have to have them for mot. I've never had one fail an mot yet.

Re: xr650r m.o.t dilema

The requirement to have mph indication under glass is a recent regulation, and not retrospective. . . . . ask the tester to show you the regulation in his 'mot tester's manual'. . . he must have it to hand in the test area. . . . He has probably mis-read the rule.

If he can't or won't show you the rule tell him you want to appeal to the inspectorate, . . . it will give him loads of hassle . . . but if re-tested by the inspectorate it would have to be spot on i.e. no race can.

It's probably less hassle just to fit a push bike speedo alongside the original.
