Re XR Front fork mods

Hi All,

Has anyone an XR with front fork mods ?? I've just found out that my forks are Marzocchi 45's. I think the originals are 41mm. My question to you all is :

How can you fit 45's to a yolk set designed for 40/41's ???

In the process of seal replacement, it became clear that the yolkes have been drilled out to a larger diameter. Is this the only way or are there any yolk sets that will fit and accomodate the larger forks. Not keen on using drilled out yolkes as could be a sight of potential weakness.

Has anyone experience of this ?? If so, what yolk set did they choose ??

Many thanks you lovely people.

Re: Re XR Front fork mods

I've got a complete USD front end off a 91 CR250,which bolts straight on,trouble on them is I'm missing a spindle clamp, collar and spindle, which is proving to be an absolute mare to get hold of
I'll have a measure of the diameter tommorow and see if you could use your forks,in early CR Yokes.

Re: Re XR Front fork mods

Hi There,

Thanks for the reply. Managed to get the upper yolk bolts in without turning over the threads on the stantions !!!!!! Will attempt to tighten over the w/e and then we'll find out. Still not the best of solutions though.

Many thanks once again.

With best wishes,

bushhouse

PS Great website.

Re: Re XR Front fork mods

which XR do you have ?

the 250 has 41mm stantions

the 400 / 600 have 43mm stantions

boring out from 43 may be ok, but from 41 is a bit much i would think, . . . depends how much material is left.

Re: Re XR Front fork mods

Yea i agree boring them out is a bad idea, especially by 4mm! lol.

You could get some 45mm yokes of another bike, but dont forget, you have to have the forks the right distance appart.

The easiest way has to be to get a new spindle for the front wheel, id machine my own up, but you may not have the technology to do that? maybe you have a friend with a lathe?

Same goes for the stem, your stem almost certainly wudn't fit any new yokes you get.

perhaps you can come up with a way of bracing/strengthening your existing yokes?

Or risk it? lol
