    Backfire screen

Read on the xr250/400 mod thread about a backfire screen?

I assume its the thing under the airbox, like a copper type plate with round holes in, with wire mesh at the bottom?
Will removing this make the bike backfire?

Backfiring is cool! I like fire

I think you will find that the back fire screen is in the silencer, its basically a wire tube that stops flames spitting out the exhaust and prevents fires on the trail supposedly.

    Re: Backfire screen

I think the backfire screen is to stop a backfire setting fire to the air box and ultimately the bike.

The screen in the end of the exhuast is a spark arrester, . . . compulsory in the states i think, so you dont set fire to the 'dry brush land' . . . (not much chance of that over here )

No it won't make it backfire. It's just as airwolf said, to stop your airfilter getting burned if it ever does backfire.
