    Cam Chain replacement

Anybody out there changed there cam chain in place using a genuine honda sealed cam chain if so how difficult was it? Thinking of changing my chain and tensioner.

Honda use DID chains as standard and are sealed, aftermarket DID xr400 cam chains are open ended, so just waying up which is best option i know open ended would be alot less hastle and easier to fit but then there's the risk of the soft link failing.

    Any advise

Hi I've not long done a big bore kit with chain .
Whilst not being a numpty with a spanner i had never stripped a 4 stroke that far down afore .
Not to be daunted I just used a Haynes . What I did do to get the bottom on easier was drop out the oil pump .

I is'nt hard the saving you will make on a dealer doing it should put a smile on yer face .

Take your time and it is quite easy, you will need a New endless chain, rocker cover gasket and clutch cover gasket, plus I would advise changing the oil and filter at the same time.

Well bit the bullit bought a new cam tensioner and an open ended cam chain today £95. Guess what i'm doing in the morning. Pulled the tensioner out yesterday and it was at full extent so the chain was f**ked also the cap on the end of the tensioner was damaged so bought a new tensioner to be safe. Will keep the old tensioner though as it works fine and is serviceable

yea its a piece of piss, if you have an open ended camchain you wont even need to take the oil pump off. Mine was an endless one from WEMOTO, i spose now is a bad time to tell you they sell em for £40?

Did them last weekend got a cam chain and tensioner from Honda £95 chain was open ended just joined the two chains together and wound the crank around. The tensioner was the expensive bit not the chain

    Hallo friends from Greece,
i would like to ask you how difficult is to change the tensioner?

After the change you need to sychronize again the cams-valves?

And final, how much kilometers has your motorcycle?

    Thank you !!!

PUt it on the T mark take the old tensioner out. MAke sure the pistoon is retracted on the new tensioner fit it then touch the screw to open the tensioner but make sure it stays on T mark valves shouldn't have to be adjusted
