1995 XR250s throttle position sensor.

I'm struggling to get the XR running well and I'm finding that it's very different to a lot of XRs. Here's my question: It appears I have a throttle position sensor. I've only had one other bike that had one (600 hornet) and I never had to do anything with that so I'm not sure what it does. What does it do and how can I check that it works ok?

Where did you find that out ???? Xr250's aren't fuel injected so i would say you dont have one, also my mate has a 1997 xr250 and that definatly doesn not have a TPS.

Put a photo up of what you think is your throttle position sensor so we can have a look at it and help you. Maybe someones transplanted aa engine from a different bike into the frame

My hornet wasn't injected either.........

Here's a photo anyway. It's connected to the end of the throttle butterfly pivot, opposite the push/pull cables. Just trying to figure out how the bike would run if it was disconnected and what resistances I should be reading off it. It would be nice to know what it does when it sends its signals up to the ignitor box?

I forgot to say I'm sure it's an XR motor because of the engine number.

I run a ZRX1200 with Mikuni TMR MJN's . My throttle sensor that came of the standard carbs is tucked under the tank .

I was wrong and thats a new one on me. I've never seen that before i am assuming that it is wired up to something and that somebody has not just swapped the carb for a different one

Yea that was my instant reaction; its a different carb.
But i dont know they WERE different pre 96,
What does the TPS do? affect the advance/retard i would guess, what else can it do?
Theres no solanoid operated fuel or air bleed valve anywhere is there?

I know the californian models have some wierd extras to conform to their emmisions regs, its not a californian import is it?

That was what i was thinking maybe an American import, give the engine number to a honda dealer and they will tell you were it's from. My Xr400 is a 1999 model from Canada and that has a standard carb. Is the sensor wired up in the loom?

It's a Japanese model imported direct. I'm pretty sure the carb is stock or at least the same type as. The numbers match up and it looks too neat to be a graft on. The sensor is wired up to the loom and traces back to the Ignitor box.
