ahhh i understand how this test works now it insulates the lead so the shortest route for the electricity is through the plug and not through the engine

im not sure it is a good spark all i know is there is a small blue spark and there is fuel because the spark is wet and compression is there
Definately try bump starting it...
i tried bump starting it for bout half an hour today and no joy it was misfiring every few bumps
another long shot maybe, did you do any adjustment to tappets(maybe they closed up due to not tightening properly )

I have known for an engine to get a spark, when being tested, but not when the plug is in the engine.
Also check your switch. I know that if the switch is disabled it will not spark but if it is faulty anything could happen.
Normally a case of the spark is there but not strong enough to ignite...hence my very first question of the thread ...
DJ..do you have anyone local with the same bike, (or perhaps a service manual) as it might be a faulty CDI and best way of testing is replace, or you can use a mulitmeter and check the pin resistances with what's in the manual
