Replace headlight with MX style plate

I am planning on ditching the headlight on my XR400 and replace it with an MX style plate. I only use it offroad so figure I might as well save the weight and risk of damage. Getting it prepped for the Dawn til dusk 12hr - I hope it lasts the distance!!

Has anyone else done this? Will a standard plate fit or do I need to find one specific for the XR. I guess it should have vents for the oil cooler.

    Many thanks for any help.

you have a lot of "gubbins" behind the xr light, unlike a mx'er so the plate may not sit right.i used an old aftermarket enduro light that was held to the forks with rubber straps.like you,i wanted to avoid damaging expensive OE parts.,speedo etc.

What I used to do was take off the headlight and Speedo then put the cowl back on so that you can put a race number on You then still have the oil cooler aperture open.

I now have taken off the light and speedo complete with all the heavy mountings and replaced it with the US spec XR headlight that is much lighter and looks better.
