    New boy needing advice.

Hello there, I've just bought an XLR 250 and I'm in need of some advice. I'm hoping to go to work on it (Can't really call 6 miles on single track roads commuting!) and get on some green lanes. The bike Ive just bought has got very old knobblies on and I wondered if anybody could suggest what tyres I should go for? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look at them. I was also wondering what the difference is between the XR's and XLR's. Am I right assuming that the XLR is a grey import? It seems to be an XR with lights on.

i believe the xlr followed the xl and then changed to xr,i know the xr has been around for ever,i think honda just use xr for enduro 4 stroke now.
i may be wrong and wouldn't be a first lol

    Re: New boy needing advice.

I just got a bit confused when I was trying to sort insurance for it and the xlr wasn't coming up as an option on most websites. I'm not exagerating when i say I'm a new boy, I haven't even passed my test yet! Booked in for a couple of weeks time. I've done quite a bit of trials riding and sports bikes don't really light my candle, so the xlr seemed a good idea. Hoping to get out on some green lanes and trails as soon as possible. Any recomendations around the north lancashire, cumbria, yorkshire area?

Welcome to the world of mud dust water tears joy and happiness, as for a choice of tyres whats the ground like up there, When I lived in hampshire it was chalky mainly so dead slippery so we use to mainly use MT21,s now down in cornwall and we mainly use trial tyres on the rear as its damn rocky down here, We could get away with trailwing tyres in Hampshire as they are a good compromise between road and off road. Have a look at the trails and see what suits the trrain best, bearing in mind that you will be on the black stuff aswell, so full on MX knobblies (legal ones of course) might not be such a good idea on tarmac, as i found out ponce on the first roundabout I came to once.

Thanks for that, think I'll go for some trail wings for now and then try something else if they don't suit. I'm based just south of the lake district so I'll mostly be up that way or across into Yorkshire. I've only just got the bike and not done any trail riding yet. I've done some of the lanes in the Lakes in my old series land rover and they tend to be mostly rock.
The knobblys that are on now are far from road legal, but the guy that owned it said the bloke at the test centre passed it 'cos he new he'd put em back on straight after the test anyway!
    Transporter 'cos of a van?
