crank case XR400

After finishing the Dawn til Dusk I have noticed a crack in the crankcase has got much worse and needs sorting now.

The crack is in the left case and goes from the outside accross to the centre just in front of the swing arm pivot bolt.

Is this repairable? Can it be welded or something or am I better trying to get a case? I have considered breaking the bike and selling it but it goes so well.

I have already had a topend rebuild, rear suspension service, and front suspension service so the bike is pretty well sorted.

How many hours work is it to replace a crank case?

Any help as always appreciated.

You will be better off getting a new case for this, as you will be for ever chasing that crack around the engine, and you have already spent money having the top end done. Secondhand case is not the best way to go as the engine number is stamped on this case. Also if you go for a new case remember to order the left hand selector drum bearing as well as this can be a pig to remove undamaged from your original case.
