When i fitted my trailtech i used the power supply that would normally illuminate the honda dashboard, this would also power my gps60csx as long as the lights are switched on.

As long as the lights are on the trailtech will use the DC power and not the battery in the unit, there are other places you can get it from

    No.
Your lights etc are run off the AC output of your stator (via a AC regulator that regulates the output to 12V AC)
If you want DC you will have to get a regulator rectifier (off any 12V bike with a battery) You can pretty much straight swap it for the AC regulator I guess, because your lights will still work on DC.

    Re: DC supply

I dont know if the 250 is the same as the 400 but there is DC and AC on the bike
the AC supply is for the headlight the DC is for the clock lights stop/tail light and the indicators like jasonbc said you can use the clock supply or in my case i used the supply for the indicator relay as i dont have indictors fitted.
The wiring is easy just link the black wire to one of the other two on the flasher relay plug I used the grey wire

Then connect to the orange wire for live and I used the earth that the sidelight was plugged into until I can get a double connector for it

That’s it turn left and you have power on the orange wire push to turn off simple
