    noise!!! please help

    Hey

I've finally got my ex army xr250 started up, but without the baffle its far far too loud to pass an mot or even to use daily. I've seen plenty of baffles on the internet for about £10-£15, but I have nothing to measure the size of the exhaust. Could someone do me a massive favour and measure the size of the hole where the baffle goes (it has a spark arrestor fitted).

Many an e-pint to the person who helps me out here.

    Regards
    Ed

I,ve just fitted a VW beetle tailpipe into my XR400 silencer as mentioned in other posts on this forum - works a treat.
Got mine from Machine7 - Air-cooled VW Parts and Spares - Beetle Bus Camper Karmann Ghia Type-3

    Tailpipe, Standard
    103.000.60 1 x £3.85 = £3.85

I had to cut the spark arrestor away, but don,t see much use for it anyway, and a small amount of fettling on an internal weld in the Honda end cap, VW tailpipe is held in with one of the original baffle retaining bolts.
I was amazed at the noise difference.

I'VE never had a baffle in my 400 only the spark arrestor and it's never failed an mot. If it's onlt the mot your worried about i wouldn't worry to much

I have heard that some put couple of dish washing steel sponges to the exhaust for MOT to cut down the noise.
Soon these will burn out and the noise is back.

I've ordered one of the vw tail pipes, thanks for the link

Its not just the MOT that bothers me. The bike sounds like it should be a load faster than it is, I prefer a bike to sound as fast as it is, and not pretend its something its not
