Big Bore Kit XR250R, Should I do it???

Was thinking and have been for awhile as to wether I should bore out the old girl to a 280cc. kinda want to but motor is still running fine with 49000kms on the clock.
Do you think I should go for it now or wait until she wears out abit and then put a fresh lease of life into her.
What are the pros and cons of a having a kit fitted, and should I do it?

ihave had experience with big bore kits on my 400 and would never personally put one on a bike, if it's runnigfine with no problems why worry about spend the money and time on petrol and riding it

I have done a few over the year and not sure I would bother again especially on an old bike! Or a good runner! just my 2p worth.

I had to do some top end work on mine ie two valves , camchain , valve stem seals so I threw in a 277cc piston. On the road gearing I chose for the 45mile round trip to work its great on the one occasion I ran out of speedo .

Off road it gives you a nice midrange kick .

I've done 280 conversion on tired 250 had good results biggest difference i found was on steep hills could pull higher gear and much more flexible but mine was pretty tired to start with , for best results re jet and different exhaust

I put a bigger piston kit from Wiseco into my old basket case 250.I bought another barrel, had that bored and honed to the correct clearance and then sold the old barrel on to someone else who needed it.This was the easy bit as I rebuilt the engine in the morning and had the engine running by lunchtime. The result was interesting. The oil consumption was higher at first but as soon as the miles were on the bore a bit more the ridges on the honed surface were bedded in with the new piston and I could give it a bit more stick.I then regeared the bike so as to be able to use the extra mid-range and it became a lot more useable. I loved this bike...until I bought my XR400.
