    sticky throttle

    hi
ive just bought an 1999 xr 250 with a edelbrock carb fitted i think the throttle spring on the carb is a bit weak as it dosnt seem to have the strength to return the throttle ive just oiled the cables and there doesnt seem to be anything snagging the cables ,can anybody tell me where i can buy a new spring ,how do you guys rate these carbs ? also the thottle unit has the code MP 3 LN stamped on it is this a standard throttle cable setup or an edelbrok setup ?

    thanks in advance dave

    Re: sticky throttle

    Hi Boney.

I'm not familiar with the Edelbrok so excuse my ignorance.

It's very unusual for the spring to be too weak. Is it possible it has been disassembled and not wound on tight enough? Have you disconnected the cables completely to see if the throttle snaps back on its own? Sometimes with a non stock carb the routing of the cables can cause a sticky throttle.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Also have you got bark busters or similar fitted, I had a sticky throttle and had to trim down my grips so they didnt foul, also it might be worth you taking off the throttle tube and making sure all is spanking clean a small amount of crud can create alot of friction, thus holding the throttle open.

    hi guys
thanks for your replies ,yes ive taken the cables off i think your are right fergie had a good look in there today the spring doesnt look quite right i squirted some wd 40 in there its still sluggish but returns a bit better i tried to get the carb out but im either going to have to take the engine out or strip the back end out not a lot of room in there a job for ron i think
id be interestd to find out the history of this bike i think shes got a big bore kit in there she certainly goes well for a 250
