    Front sprocket

    Hi guys just a quickie
Can you fit a 14 tooth front sprocket onto an xr250r 1999 whilst keeping on the case saver and chain guard?
Ive got a thirteen tooth on at the moment and am just about to get new C+S,s and was wanting to make the gearing that bit longer for extended road use, currently running 13 tooth front and 39 rear by the way. cheers guys.

    Re: Front sprocket

I have a 14/40 on my 280 , the case saver is on I dunno bout the guard as I do not have one .

I find the gearing a lot better for roads use 1st gear lasts longer than 5yds . I do'nt use 6th till above 30mph .

Cheers for the replys guys, guess the 14 tooth is going on then, as for the 12 tooth, bet that is fun when matched to a 49tooth rear sprocket, might have to try that when im next on the trails just for fun.

you betcha its fun. I had my XR250R snaking left and right about 6 times in some nice long drifts on loose gravel in the quarry

pulls a mean wheelie when you clutch it too

Depends what type of riding your gonna do, you can get a 15 tooth sprocket if its only road riding.

    Re: Front sprocket

yeah, i reckon based on how I lost about 20km/h putting in a 12 tooth - you should gain around the same going up one tooth on the front and lose a bit of torque off the line

    Re: Front sprocket

Hi guys, My '97 Xr250 has got a 13 tooth front and 48 tooth rear sprocket.
Been racking my brains (didn't take too long) and I can't remember if its small front, big rear for torque and the opposite for speed or not.
I havn't ridden the bike yet, as its in pieces undergoing serious restoration, but I won't be road riding and intend doing some hare and hounds.
Will my sprocket combo be good for some "serious" off road work?

    Cheers, Al.

    Re: Front sprocket

hey mate - dead on. smaller front or bigger rear gives more torque but loses top speed.

bigger front and smaller rear does the opposite - less torque but more top speed.

I changed my front to a 12 which was dead easy - had it all done in about 20 mins - and got stacks more torque. Probably don't need to change the back too unless you want LOADS of torque.

    Re: Front sprocket

Gentlemen, in answer to my own question and to be informative to you all yes a 14 tooth front sprocket does fit on an XR250R, BUT you have to take off the case saver and front chain guard.
Not to happy about this as in the past I,ve had a chain snap and it took out the top bolt for the case saver and chain guard, so as you can see im kinda attached to keeping the case saver in place.
Anyone got any ideas as to how to get round this problem.
