This is what i've heard of happening to quite a few other people. The best suggestion that I have read about is to thoroughly clean the hub and then use Loctite bearing formula, which, if the clearance is not too bad, will hold them in place.

The wear was quite bad, wouldnt want to rely on loctite. Anyway ive stripped both hubs and the XR hub will fit but the bearing size are different due to different size spindle diametre. The larger one of the bearing is fine, due to the large spacer that fits into the bearing and the spindle goes through the spacer. But the smaller bearing will need to be sourced, because the XR600 bearing is slighlty smaller in diametre. So will be paying a visit to my local bearing suppliers.

Doesnt an XR400 wheel straight fit on a 600. As an alternative??

Yes, . . . . but it does'nt have the threaded 'keeper' on the sprocket side bearing (not sure it make's much difference though ).

XR650 hub is completely different, 20mm beaing sizes, and most important the disc bolt holes are different, and you cant use a 650r rear disc as it uses a 240mm disc, all other xrs are 220mm

Umm, not sure about that... ive taken both hubs to be measured before someone relaces the wheel...they look exactly the same, agree with the bearing comments, and had a spacer made up to suit the spindle, but the fixing hole look exactly the same for the disc and sprocket. Ill let you know.
