Twin shock XR 250

I have just bought a Twin shock XR 250,It did not have a V5 with it and I would like help in trying to identify its year of manufacture so that I can try and register it, it has what looks to be a genuine frame number stamped on the head stock, the number is XR 250 HOO89487.
The chap at Silvermans reckons it is not a valid number ,does any one have any info on this, or how you go about getting a V5. Regards TONY

This is my old XL250SA that came with the 23" front wheel...here it has a 21" rim fitted instead. I have an american dirtbike magazine where the two bikes looked very similar...it was all down to the engine components. This was registered as a 'S' or 1978 machine. Honda UK may well be able to help out.
If you get a form for applying for a form V5c from the post office, you can get an age related plate if it came without a number plate. You may need to get it insured first using the frame number...use this for the MoT as well. Then, once it has the proper age related plate, get the MoT redone with this detail.
