Fitting shorter Talon link - how?

Is there a guide somewhere on how to remove and refit my new shorter dog leg to my '96 xr400?
Also - the current one has no grease nipples - does this mean it's already non standard? I have compared the 2 and my new one is a bit shorter - what is the standard length?

To remove the link it's just 2 bolts 1 at either end of the the linkage. The original linkage doesnot have grease nipples as standard pre 96 you may be lucky the linkage length is 90mm between centres.

I use a koubalink on mine

Ta. I should have said my new one is a bit longer (as I'm trying to lower the bike)
Also, logbook shows it's a 95 so the lack of nipples makes sense with what you said.

I bought one from Race-Spec made by Devol but it came un-plated. So I had it done in bright red by my local firm in Dartford. While this was being done I bought new seals & bearings from Fowlers.
I put the link in place as the Ohlins shock that I bought for my XR400 was too long, so the link brought the seat height down to a more acceptable height.

Once you know how the link comes out, it dosn't take too much to have it apart & to lubricate it more often.

Just in case anybody was wondering, this is the link...http://www.talon-eng.co.uk/talon-lowering-links.asp

I was hoping to re-use the existing bearing- is this possible?
If not, what's the cost and part numbers for the seals and bearing set?

If the bearings you have aren't damaged at all no reason why you couldn't re-use them. Give them a give clean out and degrease dry them then pack them out with agood thick waterproof grease.

Bearings should be the same size in the both link arms so there shouldn't be any issues if there is they are only a couple of quid each from any bearing supplier you just need the 4 digit number stamped on the bearing for any body to match them

    xr400 parts - Google Search
I buy my parts from Fowlers of Bristol (0117-9770466...ask for spares dept). They supply many other outlets & usually if the parts arn't in stock they can get them really quickly.

Brilliant - I suspect the general bearing route rather than the Honda route would be cheaper by a bit?
