    Sump Guard

I´m looking for a sump guard for my 1996 xr400. Found this one on ebay:
*** Honda XR400 ENDURO Sump Guard 98/08 *** on eBay (end time 29-Jan-10 17:01:43 GMT)

Is anyone here using this one? Is it any good? how about the fitment?
Have you got a pic of it, on the bike?

Looks like it gives some good protection... Guess it´s not that much different from the one they are selling now.
    Thanks for the picture

I've used that one its better than nothing but everytime i changed the oil i took it off to hammer the dents out of it . I would save up for a CRD one or see if yo can get hold of a baja DG

Working on other peoples designs I made my own. The plate is heavy but it's better that than a damaged crankcase.

The lip catches a lot of the mud before it can be thrown all over the engine...a trick I read about by a guy who raced XR600 in the States.

I bought one hoping it would fit on my 250, I thought the frames were the same but couldn't get things lined up. Returned it and they refunded straight away.
Good quality, but only 3mm plate. Didn't look too substantial and didn't give much protection to the side cases.

I've ended up making my own out of 5mm checker plate, design based on the DG one. Can't get one of those for love nor money anymore!

    Re: Sump Guard

Just got mine from the ebay link above, not fitted it yet but looks a very sound piece of engineering, 3 mm alu alloy, not as strong as the 5 mm item above. Advantages, light, energy absorbent. negatives, absorbing the energy will cause deformation but will act as another form of primitive shock absorber and may help you to stay on the bike after a really hard hit. An ultra hard and thick steel bash plate might transmit that impact force to the frame/rider.

very happy with it, accepting that a on a very hard hit it may require replacement but will save the crankcase/frame from damage.

Looks the biz and well finished.
