XR400 Kick Start Return Spring

Anyone know how to fit the spring correctly.

I have taken the old broken spring off.

I may be wrong but it looks like the long tail on the O/D of the spring fits in a hole in the casing and the shorter tail on the I/D fits in a hole in the white plastic cover over the shaft.

Any advice on fitting the spring correctly and getting the correct tension prior to replacing the casing would be much appreciated

You are correct, but make sure that when you put the I/D tail through the white plastic sleeve, that the end of the tail goes into a hole in the kickstart shaft, then tension will be correct.

You can only make a mistake if you take the ratchet gear off the shaft, as this must be aligned up with the marks, on ratchet and shaft.
