    Road only xr400 mods ideas

    Money's tight, so before I invest £00's, this is my plan as an alternative to supermoto wheels...
    Keeping the standard wheels, I'm putting an Avon roadrunner (AM20 I think) on the front; cost me £15 brand new last week. I realise it's old stock but hopefully some miles will soften it up... I had a very worn trailwing I was thinking about, but the r/runner seems more suited?
    Rear will be an Avon Gripster, sourced s'hand with very little wear for £20, This seems to be less knobbly so should be OK. I was looking at the radical route of putting a FRONT Michelin Macadam on the rear as I had it lying around, but chickened out - I suspect MOT may be a problem also if I did this.
    Any ideas of good tyre pressures for best grip on the road?
    I have a Talon lowering link to fit also, being short myself.
    Next step is to look at the value of putting better pads in the exisiting brakes. Any experienced ideas?
    Supermoto wheels were the obvious solution, but finances meant this was not possible at this stage.

    I think you could put any tyres on it and get it through an mot i know mine does as for brake genuine honda will be best, but i needed a set urgently a while ago and got a set of the red pads (softer compound) made by GOLD for £12 from local shop. As for pressure with offroad tyres i run between 8-12 psi with road tyres i would experiment between 20-30psi

    Invest in the smallest rear sproket you can find get those rev's down at speed. A steel one will last longer than an alloy one i run 38 tooth rear

    Unless the tyres state ''NOT for highway use'' they'll be fine for an MOT. Get to know your MOT station and find a bike friendly one and ask them anything your unsure about. Your XR wll need a much smaller sprocket on the rear (mine tops out at 65MPH with standard sprocket ratios). Not sure why people fit smaller rims as I think they look daft; if your too short get a smaller bike! Well I'm 6'5"! and would rather ride a 125 round town!

    Mods for the road;

    Fit TRX engine or electric start kit.
    200W stator and decent lights
    Smaller rear sprocket
    Tyres

    That'll do!
