    Trx conversion

Well I can safely say that the TRX engine fits in the XR frame and all I've had to do it swap stators as the TRX had a 4 pin (+2 wires) and the XR has a 6 pin (+2 wires) connector. You only need a total of 6 wires anyway so I could have just cut and joined the connector. Not sure weather to use the TRX carb or the original XR one but have both boots so will see how they mate up to the airbox and wont know how it runs jetting wise till I start her up.

The top engine bracket however does not fit and was wondering if anyone knew where these can be obtained. The one I need is a similar right angle with 3 holes but with smaller overall size. I'll have to take pictures of both (as I have an already converted bike) an will post up if ness.

    Stretchy.

p.s. I have noticed that the standard XR and my already converted XR have wiring that does not conform to the schematic and have a seperate regulator ? with big capacitor stuffed behind the headlight. The (original ?) regulator is still in the frame with only 2 wires connected to it (it's output is still connected but has no input).

What's goin' on with that then?

More news, well not much really; only I have discovered that the top bracket is home made so doubt I'll find another so down to my local machine shop.

Engine starts and runs OK with no funny noises which is one less worry as was a bit of an unknown. I've just got to wire up a solenoid circuit and wire up a charging circuit for my Lithium Iron Phospate batteries and find somewhere to put them!

My other 'Leccy start XR400 will be for sale soon, 12Months MOT, keep a look on E-Bay.

Is there anyone else out there doing this or am I the only one?

    Re: Trx conversion

I do but it's looks just like an XR400 without the kick start so nothing exciting I'm afraid! I will post up photos of the build soon!

I will however be building a decent charger for the batteries which will start the bike (that's all they'll do as the genni will run the bike once started).

    LiFePO4 seem to be where it's at at the mo' so have got 4 of these;

    LiFePO4 26650 Rechargeable Cell: 3.2V 2600 mAh, 42A Rate, 8.32Wh

The charger is just some chip from Linear (or Maxim?) anything in (4-60V) with a 1% regulated o/p; don't you just love modern devices!

It's such a simple mod, I guess it's just finding a TRX engine cheap which I was fortunate enough to do and of course finding a donor bike. I got one with a busted engine from a chap on here. Not suprised it had been run out of oil as was a rather abused example with worn discs, holes in the frame and the CDI was busted too (suprise). Still, hasn't cost too much and will be happy to sell on my other bike for a fair price and keep my own creation .

I thought an TRX engine had a reverse gear and four forward?
Did you change the gearbox over?

    Re: Trx conversion

No, the engine is virtually identical to XR, possibly different cam, not sure but rocker cover is slightly different and needs modified top bracket. There's also an (unused) mounting hole in the crankcase casting. The pics on ebay show a couple of close ups. I still don't know why lots more people aren't doing this? Maybe they think it can't be done? Well it's been done twice now! Well I may be totally wrong as I haven't ridden the one I've built, would be funny to see me fly backwards when I put it in first!
