    XR250 v XR250Baja Help Please

Im looking at a few XRs and some claim to be Baja's?

Could someone enlighten me please on a few things
    1. The Bajas- have the two big headlights- are the remainder of the parts similar to the xr250s
    2. were they sold in the Country (UK) or were they all imports
    3. What are the diferences (main) like gearing- I see that the bajas have bashplates.
    4. Are all xr250's now becoming sought after or is it reserved for the bajas
    5. what are the known problems to look out for with both types
    6. are there any forums, in adddition to this one that might offer specialist advice on the above
7.what is the diference between an xr & an XLR !!

The bikes im looking at are not new & in the 」1000 range-

    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry but I have no experience of the bikes that you are asking about....but if you work via the 'search' function you may well find some answers to your many questions.

And welcome to this part of the forum....

    thanks for the welcome!
I have done a search and another and believe there is limited diferences between the baja and the xr250.-
    I will report back shortly!

    Hi Rod.

I'm not sure what help I could be but I do have one of those baja yokes.
Basically it's a variation of the japanese only market XR 250S. Interesting factoid: Honda's MD commutes to his office on one.
    Ok Ok.

    1/3.
By "xr250s" I'm not sure if you mean xr250s, as in plural of xr250 or "xr250S", as in a model designation "S". The baja is basically identical (big lights, intruments and tank) to the S model but quite different to any of the other xr250s. It has a different carb and cdi, electric starter and battery, different forks, airbox and things like throttle cables. I haven't been able to get service info (I have to learn Japanese) like the motor specs but bearing in mind the baja and S are supposed to make 8 or 9 more bhp than the ordinary xr250 I'm guessing there must be.
The baja does have a skid plate but I thought they all did? Gearing? I'll include a specs link but it's only for one year and I have nothing to compare it to.
    「ホンダXR250/XRバハ」

    2. I can only speak definitively for this country (Ireland) and they were only greyed in. From what I know they were only for Japan.

    4. ? not a clue.

    5. ? same again. I could tell you what was wrong with mine (it would take a while) but I don't know if it's typical.

    6. I've been looking and I still haven't found one for the Baja/S! Thumper talk is supposed to be good for the L and R types.

    7. I'm not really sure but the XLR is a variation of the XL. Older?

    I hope that's some use.

Fat Fergie!- thanks ever so much for the input- yes you were of great help.

Do you still have the Yokes from the Baja ( lights et all?)

I looked at a Baja- it seemed to be missing parts- i wasn't sure if it was an XR250 mocked up

I did mean XR250 not xr250s- good guess

    Thanks alot...my hunt continues though!

Sorry. I didn't mean that. (I do still have the yokes but they're attached to the bike.) "Yoke" is an Irish way of saying "thingy" or "wotsit".

    Re: XR250 v XR250Baja Help Please

Hi, I also have an 93 XLR250R Baja import from Japan,
Previous owner replaced twin lights with single,
Kickstart only, metal tank, no battery, they are fitted with indicators and rear pillion pegs. I thinks most other parts are the same.
