xr 250 r starting problems

Hi i own 1995 xr250r with the wet sump and i am finding it dificult to start the bike in the mornings once the bike has fired up it starts first time every time i have tried it on every choke setting but it seems to like no choke on and on average its takes at least 20 kicks to get going the bike has low milage (3000) and has its oil canged every 600 miles. any help would be greatfully recieved Adrian

I had an XR 250 of that era and found that it started much better with a fast tickover and leave the throttle alone. Then when warm slow the idle speed down. Worth a try.

From cold;
A. fuel on,
B. choke fully on (uppermost position),
C. turn tickover screw a couple of turns clockwise,
D. use kickstarter to find compression hold in this position,
E. pull in decompressor lever and move kickstart 50mm further (no more),
F. return kick lever to top and release decompression lever
G. give a good fast kick, do not touch throttle.

If it does'nt start repeat procedure D,E,F,G.

When warm return tickover screw to original position.

This works for me.
