XR650R supermoto setup help please.

OK guys here is the question that you have all heard over and over no doubt!.
Just fitted a pair of Talon/Exels 17" to me bike and looks real good,Only had on quick spin on it so far and my first impresion is it,s a tad over keen on the turn in! I found myself having to be trying to straighten it up all the time in the bends,So can anyone who,s be there and done it before advise me on some basic settings for suspention and tyre presures etc.Im guessing that as the front has dropped quite a bit due to the much smaller wheel I my need to lower the rear to compansate and correct the fork angle but that may prove to be completly wrong.Any help advise very welcome.Thanks.

hi there, i remember my first corner with 17s on! obviously going from a 21 on the front to a 17 is drastically altering the geometry of the bike. from my own experience i would advise the following..the bike will be very sensitive to suspension settings, they need to be right for your weight, and equal , take some time and trouble to adjust the forks accuratly top and bottom. Tyre pressures on supermoto tyres are usually much lower, too high and the feeling of falling into corners is increased. There is some info on tyre pressure on the maxxis website. im using avon distanzias, at 24psi,. The other thing i found was just to relax e bit, have faith in the tyres, especially the front , its just such a different sensation to the old knobbelies! regards, great escape

I fitted 17" wheels to my XR400 with just ordinary Pirelli Diablos on the wheels. With tyre pressures at standard settings for the size of the bike it felt fine with 33 psi front & 35 psi rear, & it went around corners just nicely. As has been said it gives a strange sensation when jumping from the 21/18 combi to the 17/17 spec..so just take it easy & try having a look at some of the more specialised forums for supermoto enthusiasts... supermoto forum - Google Search
