Indicators for 2000 XR400

Hi!
New here.
I have just purchased a year 2000, XR400.
Had trouble starting it at first but after setting the valve clearances, changing the plug, cleaning the air filter and changing the oil and filter it starts first time now. (Crank to feel compression on the compression stroke, pull the decompression lever, down with the foot for 2 inches, release the decompression lever and kick but not too fast) Starts right up and run like a dream, really quick too.

Any way my question is can i fit indicators because they were not fit as standard.

There appears to be wiring connections for the indicators, and there are indicator sign lights on the dash but no indicators or indicator switch where you flick the light on.

Is it possible to fit them on this model?

Hi, yep its very easy, you just need to get a pre 2003 (I think) Varadero LH switch as its all in one, plug it in.

Buy some indicators (Plug them in) and a flasher unit, again plug it in.

You may need to fabricate some mounts for the indicators to mount them on the frame, or drill hold in the rear mudguard and headlamp cowl, if you go this route then use big (penny) washers to help move the load over the plastic.

Most xr400s came with indicators as standard so all the cabling and flasher relay should all be there unless previous owners have removed it, personally i wouldn't bother fitting them it's only something else to get broken off when out offroading. Mines a 99 model and everything is there it's an ry model so yours will be less than 12months different so it should all be in place

they are the same switches on all big honda's, when i broke mine i got a used one from a breakers off a NSR125r. Or offroad only www.oro2u.com sell them new for about £25. If you get a used one you may need to swap the pins around in the connector block to suit your bike
