Whatever you do, when you do up the banjo bolt on the bottom of the frame tube, don't get the braided hose twisted otherwise it will restrict the oil flow with obvious consequences.
I know, I noticed that when I tightened it. I wedged a spanner between it and the frame to stop it from happening.
Thanks!
I've drilled out the frame tube drain bolt & araldited a shaped magnet into the hole so's to catch any passing metal pieces. It always has something metallic on it whenever I have changed the oil.
Just another tip for XR owners...
Took the clutch cover off to change the Kick Start oil seal on the XR600 last month. I took the oportunity to remove all the filters, flush the frame etc.
The bikes done 35,000 miles and the motor was like new inside so that was good to see.
The engine filter was clean, judging by the gasket and cover bolts its never been apart.
The frame filter had some bits of metal in it and looked as though it handn't been out before so I am assuming that the metal is from the original build.
Worth going though as it's given me a nice warm feeling about the state of the motor.
I may do the magnet mod, seems like a good idea, though its only steel that will stick to it, so I'm guessing bits of gears mainly?
K. Cheers!
Only 5,900 on mine so Judging from what you said about the oil stainer in the sump behind the clutch cover I will assume it's OK for now.
Might flush it though next time, sounds a good idea.
