    Re: chain lube

Use engine oil or gear oil, anything oily, thick and sticky. For most people regular cleaning of the chain and application of any oil seems to do the trick.
Put it on with a paintbrush. Redneck Style!!!!

depends what you use the bike for

for off road i use wurth spray on chain wax, as i find it good as it is not sticky, so the dirt wont stick and make a grinding past

for on road i have a scottoiler

sure there will be more thoughts on this subject though....
    everything is OK

i was about to post and before i started typing i forgot what your original post was! let me know if you find a decent one (wax or other) as the spray is ok but seems to accumulate a lot of s**t near the front sprocket on a roller.

like the other member said, engine oil, if you look at the haynes manual they state to use that, I do, even off roading, as long as you clean the chain regularly it will be fine, I use xr250r all year round and have managed to make a chain last a whole year.

The biggest can of whatevers cheapest at the dealers as 1 offroad ride and it will be dry as a bone. Rock chain wax is very good for road bike use their chain lube is probably the best on the market but it is very flingy and messy.

    Re: chain lube

Whatever you do don't use WD40 as it cleans out the grease from within the rollers & causes the links to seize. A friend wrote off his new chain after 1000 miles after using WD40. There are plenty of chain cleaning ideas...some use parrafin, some use diesel fuel. I use an old toothbrush with old engine oil to get the crud off, then wipe as much off as I can before the next time out. The chain & sprockets (DID & Renthal) on my KTM race bike have lasted over 3400 miles with regular maintenance.

    Re: chain lube

Halfords chain wax works just fine. I had a scottoiler on my XJR because it was already fitted and very good it was, but on the FX I find the chain wax works well. I spray it after a ride when the chain is clean and warm.
