how do I attach images to a post?

I'm sure this has been done to death, and I have searched for this - but how can I attach an image from my pc to a post?
I have a button to add an image - but it only allows me to specify a url. Is it because i'm not subscribed?

Yes that's correct. Just upload it to photobucket or other free photo hosting service and link to it from here,

Hi,

I have registered on photobucket and uploaded my pictures, but when I place a post and attach an image it just puts an icon with a red cross.

When I click submit will it show correctly or am i doing something wrong?

You have to ensure your photobucket album you are sharing is publicly visible. Apart from that just get the BB code from the photo you want (click in the IMG code link when you hover over the photo) and past the resulting text here

In the editor it will look something like the text below
[IMG]http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af177/hendergd/XRV National 2012/IMG_1797Photobucket.jpg[/IMG]


And the resulting image once you submit the thread will be as below
