plus spent a bit of time going through the other raid parts which are now just about to go for cnc cutting....

done one of the new 850rx engines.. have another 3 in the workshop to finish!

We have also been doing a bit more work on the XTZ850 quad with the main specs all sorted and the suspension now ready for fabrication.... oh and and i have also started going through the first 'trophy truck' style range rover build too.

You're bone idle, that's your trouble.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

It's going to be fab though... the craft and skill in your work shows through. Looking forward to seeing it. I expect it's really expensive to have a team like you two and all your contacts working on a bike then...

What's happening is that I won't let her in the house whilst she's covered in Fibreglass dust whilst sorting out her one piece rallyee fairing

Plus the updates I think she's posting on the XTZ forum

    Re: xtz project

sorry, don't get as much time to update forums as i once had.

the build will appear on my website (RaidXtreme (UK) Ltd.) as an article soon but in general yep its moved on.

the prototype brakes have been machined, pic below of the ikkle disc set up... i don't have a pic of the 330mm version atm, these were taken on the old OEM forks but i have a kit also for the Kabya 46/48mm usd forks the i will be using.

Stacks of new metalwork is done including a new HD hi cap all ally rad with built in oil cooler and twin fans, new rad protectors and headlight protectors, dash risers etc . I have also been busy working on sorting out the yokes, I now have a HD Renthal set up which use's our own design reverse mount for the scotts damper.

I ended up reworking the levers too, i switched to a smaller lighter clutch lever perch with choke lever built in and on the other side I have a modified TDM throttle grip and custom cables (longer stainless steel cable and hd outer) to allow me to use OEM TRX850/TDM850 carbs. Its all mounted on Renthal fat bars with Renthal clamps and new Renthal kevlar grips and protected with Rally Pro guards.... loadsa dosh but works well and is very strong.

At the minute i am working through the bodywork, new hecktank molds done and a test made. I have new rear panels for the non hecktank build, and a new xtz/wr rear mudguard all in a grp at the minute but will be made again in kevlar for the final ones. The monster job at the minute is getting the rallye fairing done, I have moved the goal posts so many times with the spec its become a bit more complex than ever (the new rad is wider, i need to get other gear in there too, the fuel system has been revised so new fuel taps, the screen is a little higher and wider to cope with a bit more abuse and more gubbins on the dash.... etc) but i think i cracked it at last with the only compromise a small revision to the rally dash mount at the cad stage.

Hopefully i should have this mold done by the end of the week and then i'm going to have a monster panel making week (loads to do for xtz, xrv, range-rover our bikes and even a wr bit!) and then this mold will be re jigged to make the fairing for the xtz quads too and lastly its going to be used as the donor to build my new fuel tanks.....

I have done a complete rework of the whole back of the bike's mechanics too in cad now, that's a new HD all ally rally style swingarm (quick release wheel, shell adjusters, revised damper mount, deeper cross section etc etc), I also have reworked the hubs, the new design will allow a bigger spoke (and a z-spoke option) with no cush drive, it also has more and larger bearings, there is new damper and new preloader... plan is to machine up theses in a few months when the bodywork is all done. At the same time there also new ally paniers to weld up...

Other jobs include a new rally frame strengthening kit designed on the factory marathon builds, new dog bone kits, rad guards (x3) new rally style sprocket covers, chain guard and chain catchers, some more crash bars/rack, I also have ready to machine a dual side stand kit and most the parts to build our own frames from scratch from now on (chromolly tig welded jobbies!) so when I get space I will start on the jig... I even managed to get the new plates for the new range rover v8 exhaust headers done, but thats another build.

Another job thats just getting underway is the exhaust, after a lot of head scratching i have junked the Laser Produro system i was going to use as a standard set up as its just not what i want and were going to building our own. All stainless, tig welded and a custom fit based on the marathon kit exhaust with slder joints on springs... no compremise and i like that. Early cad designs for the cutting list look ok.

I seem to be never ending sorting out ikkle bits that just think about but it is moving on, plans are to have a one if not two bikes by the end of the year and if i can get my arse in gear the quad on its way.... that is unless the Tenéré frame i have here jumps the que.

    Re: xtz project

thanks kymmy and jenna, i bought an xtz a few months ago, so far very happy and am looking to slowly improve this bike myself.
am eager to see this finished project of yours. will keep an eye on this forum, as well as the xtz one.

    Rich

o' a quick question, what do you think of the idea of removing the air box and replacing it with two single bent tubes running up under the tank with a foam filter in each end. your thoughts whether good or bad would be great.

thanks again and keep up the fantastic work.

Pod filters do let in a lot more air.. Fine if you get a more free flowing exhaust and chage the jets/needle position but on a stock bike you'll end up being very lean..
