Nope, she's not basing her build on anything previous, All of her choices are based on parts/styling that'll do the job.
Nothing more, nothing less.

so far any mods have been as the of the direct requirement for this bike to meet a set criteria laid down for an ideal bike to meet our specific needs, eg larger fairing to get in bigger dash, larger air scoop to get engine cooler in higher ambient temps... but I guess if you think about it logically the Byrd ( and not Yamaha Moto France as that plaque implies!!) XTZ750/850rr bikes were built pretty well for the exact same use as we have, they also chose to use only Yamaha parts (not much choice for them as they are owned by yamaha!)... I guess the interesting thing would be to know where the XTZrr (built by belguarda) stops and the YZE850 (built by rivals sonauto) begins?
so far every panel will still fit a stock bike however the 'phase 2' bits will be more rally raid 'one off' orientated, and these are very much based on the YZE850 that Peterhansel rode...
new main tank... the wasted space under the tank is criminal especially with the air box junked, so a new hi cap tank in Kevlar is in design, dual compartment with provision for an air trap and filter located high on the frame behind the headstock as was used on the YZE.
850 trx power plant, again as used in the YZE.
Setrab ally oil cooler and 18% oversize ally rad... yep as used on the YZE.
guess at the end of the day some areas will have to be a compremise due to cost and low volume but so far everthing is going to plan.
It looks real good so far![]()

thanks bob.
well last night i had an hour to spare so i though i would whip of the front wheel and check out what needs doing.. ok so i ended stripping the wheel and refurbishing the rim ready for paint (yep paint not powder coating).
As i suspected the spokes were shot and ended up having to put the bolt croppers through them...(subtlety is not my style), so new stainless spokes ordered this morning and new HD tube, rim tape and tyre from Michelin so thats not going to help with the budget

Hub is getting shot blasted today and that along with the rim will be etch primed tonight ready for paint, still undecided if i should change the discs as they arnt to bad (sub .5mm wear), may just countersink the bolt holes and get them plated and use as test disc's then replace later with new...
One think that has been nagging me is the new USD forks are way to soft for my liking so while the wheel is out they will get a rebuild and new springs/seals and a re-valve (some thing that chris hockey is helping us with)...
quick update:
both front and rear wheels have been stripped, rims shot blast/wire bushed and 2 pack etch primed, they also have had a very nice shiny coat of orange pant and a black pin stripe to finnish off aswell.
hubs were in a terible state, front had one collaped wheel bearing and other bearing siezed, the rear had one shot bearing and another that had the race mangled into the carrier!... ummm not exactly 'well maintained'.. anyway hubs like the rims have now been shot blasted/brushed back to fresh metal and then primed and painted, hubs like frame are in a metalic gunmetal grey.
Sadly the arse's at central have ****ed up the whole spokes, and so i have switched suppliers to Wyles (who are agents for central but sell at 20% less than central and actually have some stock!!!!!) for the new rears and the front are being specially made for us by Hagon, in the end i opted for 9 gaugue stainless as although i wanted the heaver (4mm) 8 gauge spoke the rims wont except the larger nipples so this will be done when the spare wheels get built. Still have a few concerns over switching to stainless spokes over galvanised as there are a lot of reports of the stainless snapping as apposed to streatching (like galvanised) when the rim is put under heavy load like on a big jump landing....
Spent the last day or so starting to sort out both the dash and the wiring, for some mad reason Yamaha have have placed all the electrical connectors under the tank so these have been removed making the loom so far one single piece (the loom will then be chopped were the plugs fit best for us)... we are also changing the old anologue dash to a new touratech IMO so all the additional wires for this have been added, the ignition pack and amp is also now located on the dash risers so its easily accesable, new wires/relay for the electric fuel pump (replacing the vacume one) and an extra relay and wires for the air horns. If thats all not enough of a headache we have built our own sub dash that houses the tracker, emergency beacon, new fuse pack (as this bike has just 1 fuse and no relays!) and an ignition relay. The sub dash also houses the new ignition switch as the old headstock lock/switch has been removed.
Between doing the wheels and wiring i have made up the prototype dash risers and supports, these have been made from 3mm sheet ally. so far its made in sections that are bolted together as i keep having to change the shape and location to get everything in but the final one will be weled and come as one piece ready to fit.
so there you have it yet another fews days tinkering and a few more bits and pieces nearly done...![]()

not been able to do much as i have been away at work and still waiting for bits but have done some of the rewireing.....
I ended up ditching all the yamaha loom, we have then built a new one that has no plugs where you cant get to them easily, we also added wires in for the fuel pumps(s), air horns, horn switch and new LED lighting ( including a new electronic flasher unit)... all the bikes ignition has been relocated too for easy access.
not spent so much time om Kami this week, but did manage to get the new loom nearly finished and shes been stripped back to the frame. Engine is out but i dont want to get to deep into it just give it a quick freshen up with a bore hone, new rings and head gasket as at the end of they day its only a tempory engine untill i can find a TRx 850 lump or maybe a cheap TDM 900....
will post up a few pics later...
couple of pics of the shiny bits!!!
the new wire for the loom, all ready cut to lenghth and just needs to be made up.. 5 minute job!..lol yer right.![]()
