heh, still got the triumph to sell though..........

thought about what to do and decided on the tenere for a number of reasons, I got a brand new white one for £4800 otr, service intervals are 6000 miles and its bloody good on fuel - 65 mpg. also the consumables are cheaper than the tiger - tyres are £80 a set cheaper, brake pads are about £15 a set cheaper and chain and sprockets are £50 a set cheaper. once its run in i'm going to do the servicing myself with the exception of every 2nd major one. 6000 service will be £25 in parts and the major £35 in parts. i'm going to replace the bike with the same model every 2 years once the warranty runs out - dealer will honour the warranty providing i buy all consumables/parts from them. oh and ebike added it onto my policy at a cost of £0.00!!

ordered new panniers, top box, handguards, centre stand and bash plate just need a new scotoiller now......

oh, and did i say how slooooooow it is compared to the tiger.....

I rode one of these today, had it for about 2 hours, and i really liked it, seems a very sorted bike, very smooth for a single, looks really well made, handled well and good power, and Tonka toy looks, i really like the looks.

Liked it a lot, very nice bike

Had a try at one TOO tall for me @ 5'10" but there are lowering kits 1 @ 20cm & 1 @ 2" not sure of suppliers but dealers should know.

Wow! 0%, thats something I wish Yamaha would do here in Sweden.

I'll take the blue one, and some of these then:

so back to the new Tenere test ride - not impressed really in summary!
    cheap feel
notchy or more to the point "frantic" power delivery - did not induce a relaxed feeling
held the road well but not as relaxed as XT or focussed as V strom
    more revvy/vibey than i like
uncomfortable to the point of constant shuffling about - too bevelled a seat for touring
i could not see myself sitting on this mile after mile having done mile after mile day in/out and still enjoying it
no not for me - i like a bike to do what it says on the tin and not be a marketing ploy
this one i think is for the wannabees or the "look i could go to Africa and i have watched Ewan McGregor" type
plus i think it would not stand up to much winter or spills and i would not want to have to get it repaired out in the back and beyond - too modern/complicated/stressed
    for what its worth

I also took one for a spin last week and agree with most of these comments. Found the seat in particular very annoying, in that it locks you into one position too much (the R or X models have better seats). Nice engine though, quite punchy for a single and relatively smooth, certainly better than my FMX in many aspects, although the gearbox isn't as good.

Although the fairing does a good job of deflecting the windblast, it's quite noisy. The long travel suspension destroys any pretence of good handling / braking on the road - fine for offroad no doubt, but feels a bit vague compare with my FMX (or Vstrom or new F650GS).

I came away from the testride more interested in the XT660X, which is probably a better choice for me. I'm also slightly baffled why anyone would now buy a Tenere, given it's price of nearly £6000 otr. I know there are discounts available, but this bike has nothing on the Vstrom 650 or F650GS, which are similarly priced. I'd go as far as saying the BMW is a bargain in comparison - lighter, faster, sweet engine - all for not much more money and less depreciation.
