What a disappointment.
I was hoping for a big bore development of their nutty FZT900 4 cylinder Dakar bike from the late 80`s.
THAT would have been fun![]()

Well looking at it, and going on what they say on the write up it's going to be a slightly heavier 660 but with a 1200 cc 110-120bhp minimum, how much fun will that be!!!!
It was going to be the KTM but i now reconsidering what my second big bike will be![]()
dont put too much on that pic.. infact i think its a fair bit wide of the mark. The new bike has been in deleopment from late 2005 and has yet not had an engine assigned to it... under test is the snowmobile 1200 and a big bore tdm900 unit (which where MCN as always have screwed up , the engine in the pic is 1000cc tdm unit not the 1200!).
Its also under debate if the design is coming from the more motocross based stable ( think XT660z) as apposed to the new tenere.. (which means MCN is wrong AGAIN!)... lastly the launch date is set for 2009 but thats december 2009 so dont expect it to in general release until march 2010 with the faults sorted.. only one thing is sure, that is there is a new Supere Tenere coming!!! (first glimpses are expected to be of the proto at cologne later this year!)
look like 2009 is going to be the year of the big trailie with offerings coming from aprillia as well as the yam and the superten as well as a 1200 KTMevery time my 990 pings me out of a corner its like
but feck me a 1200 im thinking does this thing need to be any quicker........................................... ..........................oh **** it why not
one things for sure 2009s gonne be interesting so ...HEY HONDA !!!!! WHAT YA GONNA DO YOUR LOSING CUSTOMERS HAND OVER FIST![]()
Despacio. Hay m'as tiempo que vida
Is it just me, or do all the photos of the new Teneres look like the top half of the headlight/fairing has been photoshopped onto the bottom half in an "outline.. copy... slide upwards a bit... paste" kind of way?
think its horrid design and panders to much to the ktm/beamer 'ewan' wannabees... think this concept based on the tdm/xt is wayyyyyyyyyy better.

I don't think it matters that much what the final version looks like, what I liked the most about the piece was the emphasis the writer seemed to place on the model having genuine off road ability. That mock up looks like it has a 21" front wheel, so that seems to be where MCN is coming from - let's hope that whatever engine and body the bike has when it finally breaks cover it isn't just a cosmetic job. I noticed the writer also criticised the tendency to put cast alloy wheels on similar bikes. At last!
BTW I'm not sure a bike like this should necessarily develop 110 bhp or more. The AT's supposed 60 bhp can be a handful on the dirt - I'm not sure I'd want that on tap unless it's a for-the-road-only model. Especially if it DOES have a 21-90/90 front. Also, those extra horses need more petrol use to make. If I buy one it would be to do more than a couple of thousand miles a year, and running costs soon mount up if it's being used as a work horse rather than a weekend toy.

That looks a heavy bike!More than 220kgs i bet. You'd be wrestling that over any rough stuff i'm sure.
