    Re: XTZ1200 - I want one!!

MCN this week is just the same mock-up as they previously had this time in another color, apparently they're basing it on something seen in Italy.....
MCN's also speculating the same old news that it's gonna be announced at Cologne next month.....

Yamaha UK said to us (well Jenna) in the last few days that nothing official had come from them..

    YAWN.......

the 'announcement' is not really anything thats not been known for a while ( I think they may have even got some of it for us at www.xtz750.com!) Its not come from Yamaha as i spoke with a top bod just yesterday and they have released nothing to the press yet so its still firmly speculation.

    That all said...

the frame is basically a re hash of the newish TDM900 one, its a cast sectional frame that is jig welded.. its strong and light... blah blah

wheels, well mag ally with an option on spokies, brakes are straight from the yammy v-max parts bin so yep ABS will be in there.

Engine, MCN at last done their homework and realized that the 900 wont stretch to a 1200 under any circumstances (Dohh!) and that means the new units is likely to be the test proto that was kicking around in the states last year... think it was code named as part of the Genesis range.

so that whats likely to be the new Super Tenere, a robust all rounder big trailie... NOT. TBH this is more a marketing exercise to re brand the TDM900 for the future, its not a serious attempt to carry on the old S10 legacy but more a way to slot a bike that was probably already in the pipeline into a rapidly expanding market and plugging the gaping hole in Yamaha's range that the old S10 left..... ho hum.

I'm very disappointed. What a wasted opportunity!

    Re: XTZ1200 - I want one!!

... oh don't get too down hearted it just may not all be over just yet!!

the MCN bike is just one of many options that are flying around, although not the front runner there is still some talk of an XTZ660Z thats been reworked with new 1200 engine at its heart... no actual technical detail other than a few bad photoshop mock ups ( ironically this was the 'first' version that MCN declared as the new bike but not as a 900)..

hopefully all be revealed soon as its most likely a press/demo/concept is at Cologne in a few weeks time.

    THAT would have been fun
Sorry but I am a complete durbrain when it comes to Yamaha marques, can someone please tell me about the FZT900, I have never heard of it and after searching the web, still none the wiser, would love to see a pic of the beast, again nothing on Bikepix
