    TTR 600

Any good?? Been looking around for a second bike to play on and see these and seem cheap to buy. I guess they are the XT600 engine which was always reliable old lump.

I looked at one of these myself a while back - a very interesting bike, sort of a Yamaha 'XR'. The engine is XT based, but more highly tuned. There's an electric start model (TTR600E), but the kickstart only model has Ohlins suspension as standard.

The TTR600 is a great bike! If you are thinking of an XT then get a TTR! I have a TT600RE (with the electric start) just riden her down to Cape Town 36'000km and she now has 65'000 on the clock only have replaced the rear sprocket bearing. While I was in africa I saw loads of XT's with 90'000km on the clocks with the engine never being opened. I even saw a old tenere with 480'000km on the clock but had of course been rebuild-more than once I imagine! The way it is is, the ttr has fantastic suspension but only kick start, if your a hard core overlander then go for it. I however went for the electric model the RE because I am soft. it's suspention is crap and I up graded it with front forks from a ttr and a white power rear shock also for a ttr (a straight swap) and I have a great bike, this cost £350 for the shock and £180 for a good set for front forks. Alow about 2 hours for a complet change over!
The only thing is they lack on the hp, but on the otherside the engine is so soooooommmmth with no vibs- a big consideration if you are planning a trip with a thumper. I could happly ride twice the distance than my mate on his 640KTM. They are light weight but with a good rear rack then you will never have a problem-I was carrying 100kg on heavy off road never had a problem with the frame. Even if you did, its made of steal so easy to get weilded everywhere!

    Good luck
