Have you checked out the bike yet? Things to watch out for are corroded rear frame, cracks in engine mounts (they can be welded and strengthened), excess oil usage, front sprocket nut not tightened or even worse stripped and welded (needs a new output shaft), reg/recs on older bikes should be updated to an RR98.

You can drop a TDM mk1 (pre-96) 850cc engine into them or with carbs, CDI, swap the coils from double to two singles and a small add-on loom you can then drop in a 270degree TRX/TDM Mk2 850cc engine.

You can't though use the TDM900 engine as it won't fit in the frame but people have done a hybrid of the two engines so it does fit.

WR forks can be installed with a small amount of engineering to the yokes..

Check this thread out for an example of what I mean

Re: I now have a super tenere....

Just changed the emulsion tubes in my pals Superten today.
Worth the effort, it was drinking fuel in the mid-range, £10.00 in my @ was £20.00 in his, amazing difference.
We took it out for a run this afternoon, transformed the running, dunno about fuel economy, but he was chuffed with the smooth performence.

Might be worth the £40.00 while you have it stripped, it's a common problem apparently.
