    Horn Working Intermittently - YBR125

I know its not a trail bike but I was hoping someone on here could help. The missus' YBR horn has stopped working all the time, right before its due its MOT to boot . Sometimes pressing the horn button works, sometimes it doesn't, regardless of wether the bike stationary or moving. When it does work it works fine, loud enough etc.

Ive checked all the connections are secure and that there there is no corrosion on them, what else can I check? Gotta get this sorted out pretty quick.

    Cheers

Buy a new horn, if it is the original it rusts on the inside and then starts and stops working.
Any type of car horn will fit, providing it is 12v, and will not need a relay.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

You need to check if it's a horn fault or a supply fault. Easiest way is disconnect the horn, set your multimetre to 12vdc or equivelant range then plug the meter leads into the cables that go to the horn (doesn't matter which way if they are the wrong way around the meter will show a negative reading) with the ignition on press the horn button you should see the voltage on the meter go up to 12v if it doesn't then you have a supply problem. Disconnect the connector for the switch gear open the switch up see what colour cables feed the horn switch and test them by putting the meter cables into the cables that are coloured to the switch, this will tell you if the switch is at fault if it isn't hold the button in with the ignition on and use lock to lock on the handle bars, cables tend to break around the headstock. I wouldn't however expect this on a bikes as new as yours.

The elecrician at work ran a multimeter along several point of the wires whilst pressing the horn button and said the supply is fine, so supply is okay.

For now I've just put the horn from my Transalp in whilst I wait for her new horn to arrive, and it seems to be okay, but thats the bugger about intermittent problems, you can't really tell if its sorted it or if its just working for now .

    Hopefully its sorted though...
