yes, cant talk for other manufactures but YMUK buy from Yamaha Europe and the therefor dictate the UK price. The way I understand it YMUK is in effect its own company and not 'Yamaha' as in the parent Yamaha 'Japan'.
I would hazzard that some of the price increase was also largely centralised by YJ to cover production, management and future engineering costs... eg 2008 core overheads were valued at 158M yen in 2009 they dumped 48M yens worth to get down to 110M yen... profits though dropped from 377M yen to just 202M yen. In real terms that equates to 124,764M yen profit in to 2007 to a opperating loss of -173,669M yen in 2009!!!
Yamaha's bike division is responsible for 70% of the companies income with bike sales down 20% thats a lot of money you need to find.
