The sidestand switch may be causing this, or even the sidestand may be down!! If sidestand is up, the switch may be stuck. A little WD40 on the switch, and work it back and forth is enough to fix this.

They may sometimes come loose, and prevent enough current being drawn to start the bike. Ensure the battery terminals are clean, free from corrosion, and the screws are tight.
