  1. 08:30, M25 approaching J11 clockwise

    Spotted
Yep! 08:30 this morning, clockwise on the M25 approaching J11, I was stationary in traffic when I felt the ground rumbling. Filtering up between the lane 2 and 3, a weaving Transalp, groaning under the weight of a lardy ar$ed chunky, wearing a black jacket with Honda written across the back...
  2. The old dual-sport tyre pressure cliche no doubt.....

    XR
Firstly - A very Merry Christmas to one and all ! New bike, new to off-road. And in need of advice ! Ive used the search function, but to be honest im more confused than when i started. 2003 XR400 running brand new AC10's and road tubes. Im not using the bike for commuting etc, however may...
  3. 700 transalp standard exhaust - removing baffles ?

    Transalp
Excuse my ignorance, is it possible / easy to remove the baffles on the standard exhaust ? If so how? Alternatively, which is the loudest aftermarket exhaust that will fit this bike, to let other road users know that you do actually exist and you are approaching !!!!
  4. CNash's '6 wheel' quote not saving nowt!

    Insurance
Ok, Im not the sharpest tool, and I am now officially a grumpy old bugger, but when approaching Carol Nash for a 6 wheel policy (Bike and car combi) I expected that it would work on a "cant ride and drive at the same time simultaneously together" kind of cost-saving concept, and that therefore...
  5. Tendays in Croatia

    Ride Reports and Pictures
Not much of a TR but I was in Dubrovnik for a week at a mate's wedding. Hired a scooter for a day for a quick recce and a KLE500 for 2 days 2-up. This a Piaggio X7 250cc. It was quicker than I expected and OK for overtaking trucks on the coast road. I rode it down to Cavtat, had a look at the...
  6. xl600 '94 popping on overrun

    Transalp
Hi, just bought a 1994 transalp and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the popping. It happens every time, on overrun, in all gears, when approaching 3000k revs, popping not very loud, more like a puffpuff/sighsigh popping What do I need to check first? Second? etc :) Thanks Eirik
  7. project bike

    Mechanical Advice
Hi there... so, my recent mechanical "exploits" have encouraged me to look for a project bike...I have seen the africa twin/dominator threads but I am scared of approaching anything that big/difficult myself. The idea is to buy something cheap, and slowly do it up to new/better than new myself...
  8. Sleeperzz 2012.......................the Highland fling

    Ride Reports and Pictures
Last weekend, 11 of us made the long trek from Yorkshire up to the Scottish Highlands for 5 days Apart from a few wet roads on the long 436 mile ride up to Rogart, the weather was truly spectacular with a totally dry and sunny long weekend Our destination was Rogart, near Brora - high up on the...
  9. Totally rookie rider - some tech help wanted, any extra advice welcome as well

    Dominator / FMX
Hello everyone! I very recently happened upon a low cost purchase opportunity. A friend of mine is moving to another European country for a new job and he was looking to sell his FMX 650. I've been on the bike as a passenger quite a few times, he's someone i trust (so i knew he wasn't lying...

  11. Winter-ising your bike

    Chatter
That time of year is fast approaching saw the gritters out last week on the way to work so decide today to look after the Varadero a bit. Pulled her out the garage put a couple of towels over the brake discs and went to town with the duck oil. Lagged her silly and left it outside the garage...
  12. Hepco and Becker Gobi panniers

    What's it worth?
I have a pair of Hepco and Becker Gobi panniers that I am thinking of selling. I am getting some aluminium panniers. Any idea what I should put these up for. I see new ones are over £400. They are just approaching 9 months old, with both keys but not with frames. As shown here...
  13. Found: Learner legal 125 bike

    Bikes For Sale / Wanted
Jennifer is fast approaching her 17th birthday and I'm looking for a cheap 125 to get her through her test. Actual make of bike is not important but she has rather sensibly drawn the line at cruiser style and scooters. Has anyone got anything that would fit the bill?
  14. cutting out

    Dominator / FMX
is there a known problem with the dominators cutting out approaching junctions or when slowing as ive recently had it cutting out quite a bit today. always re starts without problem. bike is a 93 and has just been serviced. also appeared to cut out when braking fairly hard at slow speed. im...
  15. Preventative Maintenance Rear Pads

    Transalp
Well, I've just fitted new rear pads and typical of me, I take every opportunity to lube and clean all pivots etc. So, any of you out there who follows the Haynes manual for changing pads, wait a minute and do a bit more than they suggest. They say about pivoting up the caliper so that you can...
  16. Morning all, new XR400R owner...

    I'd like to introduce myself....................
Hi, thought I'd introduce myself. Just picked up an 1997 xr400r as my first offroader, been riding road for a long time but always fancied one. I'm approaching it as a mountain bike that I don't have to pedal, rather than going banzai and trying to take on big stuff (at least until I get used to...
  17. XR400 horn and lights

    XR
The horn on my recently acquired XR400 only works when the lights are off. When the lights are on (normal or high-beam) there is an extremely feeble beep that is barely audible, but once the light switch is off, the horn is loud and clear. This is all obviously only while the engine is...
  18. XR400R power issue.

    XR
Hi, When I am at high revs at speed and roll the power off a little, perhaps approaching a roundabout or traffic, my XR400R 04 jerks forward and back ie: the power goes dead then on then dead again then back on, then the power delivery returns to normal. Haven't noticed it at slow speeds/...
  19. Where have all the idiots come from?

    Chatter
I went riding for a few hours today and there seem to be more idiots than normal on the road today. Does Easter bring them out from hibernation? I've seen a power ranger overtake myself and two cars in front only to have to slam on his breaks as everyone was rapidly approaching a small village...
  20. Not a good ending

    Transalp
As yesterday was the best day this week weather-wise, I went on a mammoth trip to Aberaeron, Aberporth etc. All very pleasant until the afternoon when the wind started to blow, and the clouds came down. The Black Mountain - Llangadog to Brynaman was horrible. But the worst part was the M4...
