  1. Been Away

    I'd like to introduce myself....................
Hi, I've been living in Thailand for the last 14 years and just recently returned to the UK, but still making regular trips back to Thailand whenever I get the opportunity. How long I'm going to stay is anybody's guess and at the moment I'm looking around for an XRV750, I have my eye on...

    Africa Twin
Well as it says folks im getting about 50 miles less to the tank with normal back and forth to work. 3. HELP!

    Transalp
So my 650 TA v4 has developed a lumpy 'pulsing' tickover and has started to backfire on startup a bit. It doesn't stall and runs fine when going though- still pulls well and mpg does not seem to have been effected.I thought I might be unbalanced cabs but I have checked them with a set of gauges...

Hello , just bought my first transalp va8 , Picked it up today from Birmingham (uk), Great bike , ride home was cold , but hay , had a smile on my face all the way,, bit of a wheel shake , looked and found that the balance weights on the rims were missing , so that's my first job,, But overall...
  5. Steering 'wobble'

    Transalp
Hi all, me again. If I'm riding my other bike, Pan European St1100 I can take my hands off the handlebars at any speed and its as smooth as silk. On the XL650 there is a very obvious wobble at around 40mph. It's not there at all if I'm holding the bars even with one hand but take both ands off...
  6. Wobbly front end on my Africa Twin RD03

    Africa Twin
I have a 1989 RD03 and the front end feels like it's made of jelly. If I shake the bars when stationary the whole front end wobbles back up through the bars. This also happens when moving at low speeds (below 10mph) and when coming to a stop which throws the whole bike off balance. Once moving...

    Africa Twin
I've Had my Rdo7 coming on 3 years and have never touched it as runs like a swiss watch, The fuelling is nigh on perfect I would say for carbs. But is it possible to get an absolute linear tick over or am I being too anal as it is very slightly uneven?

    Africa Twin

    Africa Twin
So yesterday while the tank was off balancing the carbs, I realised I hadn't changed spark plugs in over 24k km's so in amongst all the chatting with a mate and helping him fit heated grips I changed all 4 plugs put the bike back together and all is good, running and ticking over just fine, go...

  13. lithium 12v batteries.

    Africa Twin
Oh no not again. This is my new AT battery. It's a 4 cell pack of 15Ah capacity. It weighs less than 2kg and if I'm honest it scares me a little since those cells will discharge happily at 150A. It cost less than 100GBP. Whilst bits are painted plated or otherwise fettled I'm getting on with...

  15. Varadero xl100v misfire / surge

    Varadero
Anyone else have surging / misfiring issues with a cabr model xl1000v ? The bike surges and almost feels like misring around the 3000 rpm area. I have fitted new plugs , air filter and fuel pump and also balanced the carbs but the problem persists. Is this a mixture problem ? As it seems like a...
  16. The Vigor FX experience

    Dominator / FMX
New to the Big Single experience and new to the forum. I bought one of Bobn's well fettled Vigors on a whim because I wanted a Winter bike. Knowing nothing about them its all been a learning curve, and as it happens a real good one. Ideally suited to our sugar beet lorrry, mud encrusted country...
  17. Carb tuning

    Chatter
I am about to try and tune my flatside carb when I get my bike started :D:D:D I used one of these on an old Z650 I had alongside a balancer guage I have. Do you reckon this will work on my Keihin FCR flatside that I want on my Dommie. I know these days we have gone digital with Co2 but I love...

Hi everybody I'm new on here & i would like to ask why everybody who fits the trx400 crank to do an electric start conversion on the XR400 also changes the balance shaft ? i have fitted the trx400 crank & used the original XR400 balance shaft, but here is the hitch - I'm 99% finished on the task...
  19. Idea to save bikes when they go off balance.

    Transalp
How about a side stand each side of the bike that automatically flips out when stationary and leaning more than a few degrees to either side. Sure would save a lot of damage.:) Just an idea. Pete
