Discreetly watch second bike TA 650 going though its MOT and I know that chain brings out worst of tester's OCD as it was marked as loose in advisory last year. I know it's in perfect condition and correctly tensioned but for him it's a fail for too slack. So he kindly gets the tools out and...

I've just returned from a trip to the Alps and my chain has stretched a lot to the point it now needs replacing. I've kept it in pretty good shape since I got the bike in Feb and think it's the bike's second chain (despite only having 7k on the bike when I got it). I assume the stock chain...

I did a long trip last month involving WAY too much motorway and speeds that no Transalp should have to sustain. On a number of occasions (perhaps 30-40 in 2,600 miles) the bike slipped out of 5th gear. This always happened under load at over 5,000 rpm, typically when climbing an uphill section...

Guys, I've been after the answer to this for years - Can someone with an RD07a and a centre stand please tell me what the chain tension is with the bike on the side stand straight after it is adjusted on the centre stand, I'm positive mine is too loose - yes, I know loose is better than tight...

I will be fitting a new (oem) front sprocket in the near future and was wondering what correct chain tension I shoud have while the bike is on the centre stand and at what point to measure it,i've found a couple of posts with a tension measurement while a bike is on a side stand but I feel it...

Hi all, i'm new to the forum ! My problem isn't a new one... I've read about it loads on here.... well i think so anyway. Its an extremely annoying ticking tapping sound, loudest at 3000rpm. I only bought it 3 months ago (89' ta red and white, 52,000m) it had the sound when i bought it...

Chain tension, I recall reading somewhere that it should be set 7cm below the swing arm on the sidestand. Is this about right? Oil level, I presume check this with the bike standing upright.

Under the seat is a funny little 'H' shaped tool thingy. I think it is to do with checking the chain tension. How does it work? Cheers, chunko'.

Hi Guys, Hope you all had a great Christmas, and best wishes for the new year. I purchased a 2005 XR400 in bits and boxes I have now got it back together running great but I am unsure of the cam chain settings is there a rule of thumb for the chain tensioner or is it just guess work many...

Hi all, I posted this in the @ forum but there doesn't seem to be any interest so I'm widening the potential net by posting it here, I've no idea what the chain tension should be on bikes other than the @ so it still might not be of any interest to anyone but here goes... After reading lots of...

After reading lots of the correct amount of chain slack I think it looks like there should be about 70mm between the underside of the swingarm and the chain (i.e. you can wedge a 70mm block inbetween the swingarm and chain) with this in mind I've cut a bit of 2"x1" to 70mm and I'll keep it in my...

Hi XRV, I've got an XL650V 2006 which I can just about touch the ground on. I've already got the low seat. I dropped the forks through the yoke by about an inch but with my new crash bars (Wemoto) when braking hard the crash bars hit the front mudguard so I put them back to normal and also...
