  1. Fork Gaiter Clamps

    Africa Twin
Bought a new pair of gaiters for the RD04 and just checked the price on the gaiter clamps / clips - £11:83 each!!! That's £47.82 for what are effectively 4 thin jubilee clips, for goodness sake. Needless to say, I shall be looking for alternatives.

  4. exhaust cover plate

    Bodgers Corner
After both bolts which hold the exhaust plate on completely sheared, and after drilling out what was left of the studs, and then trying to tap a new thread into the remains of the metalwork... I discovered a jubliee clip with a protruding 5mm stud welded on, and the rest was plain sailing. I...

  6. Exhaust heat shield problem solved!!

    Africa Twin
I have a very clever mate with a workshop that fixed the after market exhaust heat shield problem. I didn't want a bodge or flimsy solution so asked my mate if he could do something. 30 minutes later he came up with the solution using a bracket he made and a couple of jubilee clips. He also...
  7. You could not make it up........

    Chatter
Apparently the group "Republic" are claiming that the Jubilee Cooking competition may be illegal. This bunch of sad, sadly deluded, living-in-fairyland loonies said - "Through freedom of information research, and from correspondence with concerned parents and teachers, we know that many...

  12. 2006 Valve clearance illustrated

    Transalp
Hope this might help some. I've done it before and it does take time. But here goes. Per normal, make sure engine is stone cold. Remove the sump guard. Held by four screw head bolts and an 8mm headed bolt underneath. Remember the breather pipes at the back need pulling through the hole. Next...
  13. RD07a Engine Removal QUESTION

    Africa Twin
Hello Folks After months of crap weather, and a year or more of owning a crashed RD07a, I decided to get stripping yesterday. Before you all ask, I was working on my own and didn't take any pics, sorry! After a few hours work yesterday, I had the bike stripped to the engine and frame. Dark...
  14. Lower fork leg conundrum.

    Varadero
I am by no means mechanically or technically vocabulorated so the following may or may not make sense but i'll have a damn good go. My Vara has done almost 80k. She's doing well on it though. BUT.... i've broken something and I can't find a second hand replacement and begrudge paying for a new...

    Dominator / FMX
Hi All, hope you had a good Xmas . My question is where do the engine breather pipes go to ? , the one from the cam cover on my Dommie just hangs down the back of the engine and the vent tube from the crank cases goes up under the side cover ,both are open to air, is this correct , the tube from...
  16. Fitting stand springs

    Mechanical Advice
Cant take credit for this method, as I came across it on an AJS owners site, but as it works, and for us ole timers does away with the need for the brute strength we used to have but now sadly lack, I think its worth sharing: Drill your vise to accept a 6mm bolt (approx. you can use any size as...
  17. Want to make yourself understood?

    Travel
On my last tour of Europe I found a great little gadget I found invaluable. It's called "Pocket Comms". Basically it's a small laminated flip card system with all the common pictures from coffee to engine parts. A pic is worth a thousand words or so they say and this little thingumyjig works...
  18. Can of Worms

Here goes!! Had a great ride out the other day but I'm concerned that the clutch is slipping. Had a look at the free play and thats fine, then went to look at examining the plates only to find that I have to take the exhaust down tubes off. Only problem is the retaining clips are a ball of...
  19. Fork Gaitor Clip

    Africa Twin
Does anyone know where I can get some thin clips similar to the original ones used to fix the fork gaitors? They´re a lot thinner than standard jubilee clips. Honda want around £8 each for them! Parts 27 & 28 in the pic below.
  20. Oil Cooler

    XR
Hi I am in process of fitting an Xr400 cooler to a Xr280 2000 year model . The pipe from the clutch cover is fitted no problem . The smaller pipe that comes around the headstock to where the original clutch cover to frame pipe went is the problem in as . On the 400 the fitting it attatches...
