I was just muttering to V (as usual) how it'd be nice to see the flooded Somersett Levels (not so nice if you live there...). Anyone live nearby that could give a few pointers of vantage points etc of where it may be most spectacular? We are thinking of heading that way Sunday/Monday after the...

Advice please if you will: Yr 2000 Vara 1000, seems like the temp guage has stopped working. Coolant levels fine, bike running fine, but the gauge seems to have stopped working. Done the test in the Haynes manuel, but I'm still not convinced. A brief search here flags a thermostat issue, with...

Today we finally got out for a ride after the deluge that was last Saturday (and every other day recently). I met Barftone and Steve at Marksbury and we set off south, destination Barnstaple and cup of coffee at Tony's parents house. We made good progress down to Wells and then tony turned off...

I know that may be a bit sick, given the man had testicular cancer, but it seems that his decision not to fight the US doping investigators and therefore be stripped of his seven Tour de France Golds is because he's a guilty as sin. The Guardian has a nice list of accusers. m.guardian.co.uk...

XL600V '94. Do you need to drain the oil to open the enginetop to change the gasket sitting between the cylinder and top cylinder? I would think the oil drains down into the engine when it's been standing still for a while, and the cylinders remain empty. Also, any opinion on leaving a leaking...

Is it just me who has a bit of a nightmare working out when my SLR has the right amount of oil in it!? I seem to be forever either overfilling it or not having enough in. Last week I did a quick oil change as per the manual - put 1L in idled the bike for a couple of mins without any throttle...

Just got back from a 4 hr bimble into Derbyshire on the 'Alp and got off with a sore arse, again! Even with the Airhawk seat, I do struggle these days, possibly my being a bit more lardy than a few years ago... I noticed that there are a couple of TA and Vara owners here and wondered how thay...

Sometime back i thought i read somewhere that you should check the oil level (a) on the centre stand, and (b) with the dip stick not screwed in fully? is this correct?- or should you screw it all the way in and check the oil - the correct level should be on the top line on the stick?

Rear brake binding - sticky pivot on the brake pedal. Looks like an simple & easy job - slacken pinch bolt, pull out lever, clean out crap and rub down, grease it up and back together. While I am at it reposition the brake lever so it drops under my foot instead of about 2inches above it...
