  1. Africa Twin Technical Specs
Hi! I'm from South Africa. Been riding old bikes for ever, and recently bought a 1992 AT, my "newest" bike to date. Which fuel is preferable for the AT, leaded or unleaded? Our Octane rating is 93 for either leaded or unleaded.
  2. For Sale / Wanted
As anybody got a broken box with a spare pannier lower mounting bracket preferable to fit a touratech rack I bought some boxes and the lower one is missing Fingers crossed
  3. Transalp
Trannie says 5W, has anyone used 10W? Is it too thick? Or preferable using 5W and increasing quantity a tad? Too much can blow seals, I know. Cheers guys
  4. Africa Twin
I've presently got Michelin Anakee's fitted to a recently purchased pre-owned RD07a, the front in need of replacing before the rear. My previous @ had K60's on it, I was impressed with the road holding and wear ability. My usage would be 80% road with forest trails and Spanish rocky trails...
  5. BMW
I thought I'd PM Thunder on this, but I'll throw it out there as Kjell might be listening;) I'm saving for a 100GS; possibly an 80GS. It's going to be at least a year if I sell the Transalp, or a decade if not:rolleyes: Right, regarding maintenance, which is preferable, mono or para? My reason...
  6. Wheels, Tyres & Tubes
Other than the OEM Trailwings, what would people suggest. Decent grip (good in wet is preferable), long life (over 6000 miles on the rear, please), not too expensive. Road tyres, please: off-road manners utterly unnecessary. Main brands, ie Dunlop, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Michelin, Metz etc...
  7. Austin's Adventures
Looking for a lodge or any other cheap, decent place on our way to the piel island meet.Preferable close to where we meet up on Sat morning. Anyone knows of a decent spot?? Cheers
  8. Helmets
After my recent off, I need to replace my Trip helmet. I chose the Trip partly for its 5-star rating - and it's been fairly quiet, and fairly comfortable, and doesn't suffer much from buffeting. But the Trip has been discontinued, and the replacement (Konda?) doesn't have the stars (and...
  9. Mechanical Advice
Hi all, I've worked out my temperamental starting is down to a poor connection between my HT lead and cap, its on my beloved 1984 XL 600 R and is an old screw on type affair, Ive given the parts a little clean out but is there something I could beef up to make that through connection stronger/...
  10. Africa Twin
Just swapped the front wheel bearings over, post MOT advisory notice. Followed the useful 'How to' and bought bearings as per the codes suggested: double rubber sealed. Subsequently noticed that in the Honda workshop manual it talks about bearings sealed only on the outside; does it matter...
  11. Mechanical Advice
Can anyone recommend a good chain and padlock? Preferable one that doesn't weigh a ton and isn't too expensive. There are loads out there and it's hard to know which are good and which are made of swiss cheese. Any stories of thieves being defeated by a particular brand or model?
  12. Meet Ups / Rideouts
Everone who has registered for this event should have received an email this afternoon, allowing you to select an arrival time. Do we, as XRVer's wont to meet for the 11-12 slot and hopefully ride as a group ? Mods can someone sticky this for a couple of days please. There are plenty of spaces...
  13. Mechanical Advice
Had a quick look through with the search, but couldn't find any specific names. Its for my old MZ, but the principles are the same. The big end bearings gone, due to a combination of being 28 years old, my riding style and we may have pushed the compression up a bit, and a bit more. I can get...
  14. Dominator / FMX
Which model dominator would people say is preferable and why? One can of worms possibly opened:D
  15. XR
I'm in the process of looking for a XR 400 but I could use a few pointers on the various specs/model years. I gather the Red model is the preferable bike, but this will be my 1st 4 stroke after years of 2 strokes and I'm not really 100% clued up on the XR range and the differences between them...
  16. Ride Reports and Pictures
You’ve all read James’s, Steve R’s and Cookinfats ride report. Well, here’s my little addition to the tale, taking in my ride into and out of Spain after leaving the guys at Carcassonne. Tuesday 21st April Whilst they headed for Narbonne, I carried on south, heading for Perpignan on the Med...
  17. I'd like to introduce myself....................
Hiya. Been lurking on this forum for a few days, seems a pretty cool place, so thought I'd put my name to it. I'm into mountain bikes in a big way (gravity assisted preferable, pedalling is boring ;)). I'm UK based, 18, at university studying engineering. Did my CBT september last year, got a...
  18. Chatter
I believe there are others that have problems with these guys recently, I am still waiting for an order that I placed on the 12th Jan. So did a bit of investigating today, they are not on Companies House web site as a limited company, so are either registered under another company and trading...
  19. Chatter
My Dad is in the market for a new bike (new to him, not necessarily new...) He has a BMW 1150RT at the mo'. Thinking of getting rid due to pretty low use, and its big! Most journeys are in town with the odd jaunt to Kent from W London. Has had a Kwak GT550, Divvy 9, Deauville 650, and a...
  20. For Sale / Wanted
I am after some hard luggage for my XRV650, top loading type e.g. Zega with RD03 rack. Second hand preferable as not sure wife will go for 750 Euros for new AQ's set! Anyone know if the Hepco & Becker Gobi set are any good? Pannier frame looks a bit weak...
