    Africa Twin
XRV Fans, Hello. I believe I own an original metal HRC XRV750 series II fuel tank from the Paris-Dakar races and am writing to learn if anyone on the forum may be able to provide a market value for the fuel tank. As you may be aware, they are very rare and rarely become available for sale...

  3. Fitting new steering head bearings on an RD04

    Africa Twin
I did this years back on my XBR500 and dont remember any real problems. Are there any AT weirdnesses to bear in mind or is it just pop the front wheel and brakes off, drop the fork legs, bars off and remove the steering head. Then drift out the top and bottom races and refit new ones. One...

  5. Hub bearing spacer problems, too long?

    Africa Twin
Has anyone encountered hub spacer problems when changing their wheel bearings? It is my understanding that when the bearings are driven into the hub the spacer should be touching the inner race. When the axle is then installed and torqued up the spacer prevents side loading to the bearing. In...
  6. MOT Fail on the most expensive single item- Rear Shock

    Africa Twin
OK. My XRV has failed the MOT today on the rear shock. Oil leaking on spindle and no rebound dampening. My sphincter is twitching at the cost of replacement shock !! The MOT guy offered a rebuild for £100 plus parts cost? Not sure what this could go up to. He's a general MOT guy and races MX...

Great news form the surgeon yesterday. Tests are back and no traces of the Lurgy in my innards. Great! So planning to have a week with the Boss in Canada to see my niece. Weather is still good in patches so I'm racking up a few miles again to make up for lost time. Promise I'll take more...

  12. Head races

    Varadero
Just a quick question, found a notch in my head race yesterday. It's not an urgent or overly important job to do as it not really noticeable on the road steering doesn't feel any different. About 6-7 years ago i replaced them when they didn't need it but thats another story. The question is...
  13. Thatcher op

    Chatter
I see Maggie has had an op to remove a small growth. The growth contained minor traces of compassion. If left untreated it can develop into a social concience. Rapid invasive treatment at a private hospital has ensured all traces have been eradicated with little chance of it recuring.

Removing the lower ball race: Before I start with my usual butcher approach, is there a neat way of getting this off? I'm thinking a bit of heat is needed but what tool to prise it off? Bearing races in the steering head: There's almost no lip to work with on both of them - less than 1mm...
