I bought one of the last Varas in 2014, made in 2011 I believe. I’ve done three long European rides (3K to 4K miles) and it’s been brilliant. It’s now done nearly 41K miles and in preparation for another long ride around Europe I’m thinking I should change the rear shock. Just looking at Haynes...
I was recommended to add a thread as I'm currently having another fad of re-building my Africa Twin. I bought it 5 years ago as a 'project' and proceeded to leave it in the shed for 4 years! Last Christmas I dismantled it in a shed, since then I've moved house and have the space to get my teeth...

The internet suggests
- using a chisel
- using an angle grinder
- using a dremel
- using two screwdrivers
- using some sort of special tool
I'm trying to return my XR400 to standard specs.
As it seems that many XR owners remove these items, I'm hoping that someone has a diffuser and snorkel for sale!
If you do, please send me a message. Thanks.
