  1. Free sprockets!

    Transalp
I have these two. Free to collect from North London, or £10 posted they fit a 650 Transalp, and maybe a 600/700 too? (i'm not sure) - standard 48 tooth rear sprocket - 47 tooth rear sprocket (lowers the revs a little for motorway riding) both only lightly used as per these...
  2. flat spot

    Transalp
My 600 (1987) developed a flat spot this afterrnoon, around 4,500 revs she bogs down momentarily before picking up again. It feels like fuel starvation, except that she'll then shoot round to the red line with no problem. So, given that 90% of carburetor problems turn out to be electrical...
  3. Speedo vs rev counter question

    XL
I have recently purchased a 1984 XLX250R & on my first ride today I am unsure if the speedo or tacho are reading correctly at 80klmh the tacho reads around 7k it seems to be quite high the gearing is 14--40 & I read std gearing is 13--38 which is not too far away can someone give me an idea of...
  4. extra long throttle cable

    Africa Twin
I have 25mm handlebar risers on my @ and have just fitted starbars. Thing is, the bars are a tad longer than standard bars and on full lock the engine revs due to the length of the throttle cables not being enough. I like the new bars and also like the risers, so is there a longer throttle cable...
  5. 650 rear sprocket for sale (1 less tooth than standard)

    Transalp
used on the bike for about 50 miles it's 47 tooth. ie one less tooth than the standard 48 tooth. ie. revs will be slightly lower in the cruise £15 posted (it's currently in my dad's shed so wont be able to post it for a few weeks)
  6. Very strange behaviour..

    Africa Twin
This is a strange one... When I start the bike on the side stand and use choke the bike idols around 1200rpm, BUT if i lean the Bike over untill it’s level then the revs climb to 2500-3000rpm. This only happens with the choke on. when I’m moving the bike on or off the side stand the handle...
  7. Crf 450 xrl 65 plate cutting out.

    CRF - New Forum!
New to the group could do with a brain to pick please. just aquired a crf 450 xrl 65 plate the bike had done 29 miles when I purchased it in November after a full nights running fine it just started cutting out if I held the clutch and let the revs die down then won't start for about 5 mins. Any...
  8. Transalp 650 07 choke won't stay open!

    Transalp
Hi all. My choke won't stay open on my bike. I can Pull it open revs pick up all perfect but it seems Like there is a bit of force pulling the lever back closed? Can't seem to work it out. Has anyone come across Is there anything to adjust? Your wisdom would be much appreciated. Cheers...
  9. 2011 XL700V Transalp and stuttering at low revs

    Transalp
Hi, I'm the proud owner of a 2011 Honda XL700V Transalp and am still getting used to riding it. One thing that I'm not sure if it's normal or not though is that the bike stutters (like it's about to stall) between 1500 and 2000 revs consistently. This makes commuting in Central London somewhat...
  10. Rev counter question

    Transalp
On the 600 transalp it says on the rev counter X 1000/min - 1 I.e. To the power of minus 1 Why does it say that? Surely it should just say x 1000/min? Ie when the needle is at 4, that means the engine is doing 4000 revs per minute If you raise the revs or the minutes to the power of...
  11. Rd 04 idle problem

    Africa Twin
Hi all, I have an rd04 runs and rides really well, the choke and idle adjustment works has they should. The problem i have is if the idle is set around the 1200-1250 rpm region from time to time the bike cuts out when idling. Having the idle set nearer the 1500 rpm the bikes revs will suddenly...
  12. XL500 Problems

    XL
Hi there, I have an a 1982 xl500s trail bike. Engine has just been rebuilt - starts ok but runs erratically at low revs and gets very hot. It has had new valves, new air cut off valve in carburettor. No air leaks that I can see, carb has been cleaned, jets etc. Running out of ideas, any...
  13. Rattle at idle

    Transalp
Hi guys new transalp 650 06 plate owner here... I have a rattle coming from what sounds like the clutch housing area... it only happens when the bike is in neutral and being revved.. she's idling nice and quiet but when you rev I can here a rattle when you the revs are coming down after closing...
  14. Question about fueling

    Dominator / FMX
I have finally got my fmx on the road. I think its running abit ritch. When im in top gear or just drivin speed limt if i give it any throttle it splutters an dosent want to rev but if i drop a gear and then give it throtle it will pull then and if i let off the revs wile still in gear it smokes...
  15. Transalp 650 2001 indicator fault

    Transalp
Hoping someone on here can shed some light on this, as not come across it before. The indicators work fine on tick over, but as soon as you rev it slightly or if you are moving, the indicators stop working. As soon as the revs drop to idle, they work. I was told that the relay has been changed...
  16. Running in after new rings.

    Africa Twin
What is the general perceived wisdom on running in after fitting new rings. Standard rings no re-bore, barrels not honed but lightly abraded with wet and dry. Some seem to advocate the bimble along at low revs for 500miles others to allow the engine to rev a little higher for short periods...
  17. Random africa twin moment

    Africa Twin
So I'm standing at a pedestrian crossing in Marseille today, a bloke on a @twin pulls up to the lights, he spots me wearing my @twin t-shirt and shouts across something along the lines of "les motos par excellence!!" While pointing at my shirt, he then revs the nuts of it and shoots off with the...
  18. Gear Ratio Question.

    Africa Twin
I have standard gearing on my RD03, & I'm going to ride the 1000+ miles to the Elefantentreffen at the end of January, which would be a good compromise gearing wise, 1 tooth less or 2 teeth less? Only changing the rear sprocket as I have a genuine Honda one on the front & I wouldn't change that...
  19. Cutting out/ Stalling

    Africa Twin
Hello all, I just took delivery of my first africa twin this morning :) its absolutely awesome. I can't get over how well it fits me at 198cm. Just one issue though, it won't start without me giving it a bit of a twist and then as soon as i let the revs drop to idle it cuts out. when riding...
  20. 1200gs

    Transalp
Guys... I don't want to start a war or anything and I know the 1200gs is a better specified bike but my mate loaned me his for a ride this am and guess what, I prefer my 650v.... We were doing countrylanes and gravel paths so on a motorway I might change opinion but my alp is smoother...
