  1. Sidepanel lug fix

    Bodgers Corner
These lugs snap so easily and have one missing on the TA and thought I would try and get someting done to help keeping it in place. Heres the one that needed looking at And this is where it flaps about loose Small bolt looks like it will fit Used a Urethane adehesive given to me by a mate...
  2. Yet another XL600 project...

    XL
I swapped my XT250 for a 1985 XL600 'project' today :D While it is 'a bit of a shed' it does seem to be fairly complete (rhs sidepanel missing if anyone has a spare???). Here are the before pictures I didn't bother to take a pic of the large box of bits that also came with it. I'm not...
  3. Transalp Parts clearout

    What's it worth?
I have been attempting to clear my garage out and have found some Transalp stuff lurking around. It is all for an early square headlight model 600,mine was a 1989 bike. The sidepanel and Polisport mudguard were bought as the start of a naked ''RatAlp'' project that never got off the ground...
  4. What is a resonator and does my AT need one?

    Africa Twin
Cos I am taking it off. Due to my new rec/reg (FH012AA) NOT fitting to the original mounts (well it does but the plugs foul the sidepanel lug) I am going to remove the resonator and fit the new rec/reg to the top of the mudguard under the sadle just behind the CDI. Not ideal but I will space it...
  5. Bike Electrickery Qs

    Accessories
I'm just planning a couple of jobs for the Transrat, one of which is modifying the wiring loom by chopping the bundles of cables & connectors to fit the lack of fairing. But While I can get by and understand DC electrics reasonably well, can anyone shed any light or have any tips...
  6. Happy Coincidence!

    Chatter
Having recovered from the Sidepanel fiasco (thanks for the replies), with just a little shot of GTN (joke?). This morning I charged the battery a bit, fired up the Alp and took it for MOT, passed with no worries, on the way back I called in at my local little friendly bike shop, sadly they don't...
  7. Scare in the Shed

    Chatter
I was a silly boy this morning, whilst fitting a Scottoiler to my TA650, I had the nearside sidepanel off and to make life easier, disconnected the seat release cable, no problem, job done Scottoiler fitted, who forgot to re-connect the seat release cable before relacing the sidepanel?:blob5...
  8. Tool box on RD04 what........

    Africa Twin
toools do recommend? Now I've faffed about with the lock and got it working again, I now have access to the wee toolbox on the left sidepanel. I see there's a rubber retaining strap so this presumably held the OEM toolkit. As these are usually made of marzipan and are as tough as liqourice...
  9. Tank cover

    XR
After having mixed success with the tank graphics I've fitted in the past and the fact that they are ridiclously expensive,I've gone down the tank cover route. I couldn't find anything over here,so decided to go Stateside. I picked this up for £25 including postage from the US.They also do them...
  10. He stomped on the brakes, I swerved and clipped

    Africa Twin
So... I had my first accident on a bike today. Luckily nothing serious (could've been much worse). I was riding home, driving through a small city (so 50 km/h). I'd just set off from a traffic stop, suddenly the Golf V in front of my stood on the brakes (hard!!). I braked as well, but I knew I...
  11. T/A plug change? easy!!

    Transalp
well not too bad, certainly not the skinned knuckle swearfest i was expecting. this is the way i did it:-do the two "tricky" plugs first, you will then find as i did that some people dont! i did the front left plug first thinking it would be most difficult. lucky for me my bike has lost the mesh...
  12. hand guards and side panels

    Africa Twin
Hi just got my 'new' AT and want to improve cosmetic appearance- hand guards seems straightforward but what are spoilers and do I need them?!- I can't make sense of the photos on the touratech website... replacement right sidepanel where there is a gouge across the decals: how easy/practical...
  13. Can you identify this

    Transalp
Hi I was getting to know my newly purchased 03 Transalp when I removed the left hand sidepanel and this plastic washer fell out, it appeared just to be loose in there, any ideas? cheers Ben.
  14. Everybody check for this.

    Africa Twin
On my ol' faithful AT, I found a leak in the pipe that runs forward from the cooling system expansion tank under the rh sidepanel. The cause was the corner of the fuse box rubbing a hole into the invisible side of the pipe. Anyway, I checked my 'new' bike and lo and behold there is a groove...
  15. rectifier/regulator?

    Africa Twin
Hi My RDO4 cut out yesterday, all lights etc were still on,when I tried starting it again the starter only clicked then all power went off.on removing the sidepanel Ifound the main 30A fuse melted into its holder, suspect rec/reg would be the root cause of this but any one else any theories...
