  1. ABS light

    Varadero
Put some new rear sintered brake pads on my 1000va-5 the other day, and the ABS light now stays on till I move off. I don't remember it doing this before, I thought it went off after doing a self test. Is it because the pads are almost touching the disc now??

  3. Hot wires to regulator/rectifier

    Africa Twin
Hello again,I have a problem with the bike. It's a 1990 RD04 750 . I had a problem with not charging,so I replaced the rectifier as the wiring was so hot it melted and was not putting out enough voltage. New rectifier fitted and it's charging at 13.4. The wires are still getting melting hot,so I...
  4. Running on one cylinder

    Transalp
After many years of trouble free service my 600 Transalp has started to play up. On starting it today l found it to be running on only the rear cylinder. I've had the spark plugs out and find them covered in petrol so l'm guessing the fuel side of things is ok. The bike will run on both...
  5. Dying battery - did something kill it?

    Transalp
My battery has died a couple of times recently, after leaving the bike for around 2 weeks each time. Whn straight off the battery charger I get 12.7v across the terminals, this drops within an hour to 12.5v, where it has now stayed for a couple of days (indoors). Immediately after charging it...
  6. beware the dartford crossing!!

    Africa Twin
I was just starting my 3000mile trek to south of Spain via many parts of France. less than 100 miles in and I get to the dartford crossing. Its backed up 50 cars in each queue as its saturday lunchtime and I am doing my best to filter through the traffic with a fully laden bike when I get close...
  7. Odd rattle, comes and goes.

    Africa Twin
As it said in the title, "Odd rattle, comes and goes". It stays at the same fairly loud noise level and speed, revving the engine or pulling the clutch in, or any other combination of things does nothing. This happens occasionaly and usualy when she gets hot. It is loudest on the front...

  9. Which Bike Would You Buy?

    Chatter
Ok, I might need to start commuting back and forth from the UK to Spain each weekend (rather than move back to the UK), and my solution at the moment is to fly cheapo airline to Alicante and ride home along the spanish autovia (motorway). So, if my Transalp is in the UK being my weekday ride to...
  10. My Lucky day

    Chatter
:DOn the way home from work tonight I was having a spirited ride  along the A556 dual carriageway a few sets of traffic lights and a few roundabouts. One guy in his family people carrier tried to race me off the lights  mind you he had his fog lights on so that made him look...
  11. How to start her in very cold?

    Africa Twin
Any good tips how to get Queen started in very low temp? It'll be next Sunday and they forecast around -15 C (25 F). Usually she stays in carage but we are about to do a little over night trip without possibility to get her in a warm place. I'll change for thinner oil and get a spare battery...
  12. Can't remove front wheel???!!!?!

    Africa Twin
Hey guys I removed the speedo cable, loosened the 4 bolts, but when I start unscrewing the big bolt, it's like the rod is pushing out the fork on the other side outwards, instead of coming out itself. Did that make sense? Basically the big bolt stays put, but pushes out the fork on the...
  13. Transalp Rewire

    Bodgers Corner
Here's a job I've been intending doing for ages, add in a bit of quality garage time & plenty of layers (brrrr). Ever since buying the Transrat 3 years ago the wiring has been a mess - not because it has been butchered but because without a fairing theres nowhere to hide the bundles of cables &...
  14. Fingers crossed!

    Transalp
Back in May I posted about my noisy water pump and the tappet sounding noise it made from cold. I tried new coolant as suggested, no joy, noise still there. I decided to monitor it and see if it got any worse, which it did, gradually. On Saturday I set about taking the pump apart to inspect...

    Product Reviews
Scorion EXO-900 Flip Helmet Bought one of these as it was the only Flip helmet I could find that suited my egg-head! First impressions where good, quality feels good off the shelf, features are all there, weight was okay if a little heavy for the category and the price was in the region of...
  17. AT off the road for a bit - subframe TLC????

    Africa Twin
Like many At's my subframe is a bit rough. Solid but rough. Got to come off the road for a bit (finances) so had a look. After some thought, I got the drill and wire bruch out and cleaned up a small section, wiped it down and then painted with plain white gloss. Good old fashioned gloss for...
  18. Security during holidays

    Mechanical Advice
Hi guys, I just got a 2001 Transalp - my first serious bike and so far I 'm very happy with it. To secure it I bought an abus disc lock (with alarm) plus an almax chain and anchor but unfortunately the bike will not fit in my front garden which means it stays on the road and the anchor is not...
  19. @ Idle speed..

    Africa Twin
My simba (Project bike) an RD07 suffers from high idle speed when Hot.. It revs at about 2000 rpm mark when I stop at lights, etc.. The idle sometimes drop slowly to below 1000 and sometimes it won't. When stationary and on gear, by letting the Clutch out while breaking, that tend to bring the...
